Description
General Definition:
- Primarily responsible for the integrity of Lone Star Park's live racing offerings.
Essential Job Functions:
- Responsible for managing the live racing meets which includes: assigning weights or making allowances for handicap races, processing all entries and nominations, and etc.
- Contributes to decisions made on a purse structure for the race meets.
- Maintaining a complete record of all races.
- Accountable for the safe keeping of registered certificates and safe return to owners.
- Responsible for analyzing official workouts and past performance records to arrange races between horses of equal experience and ability.
- Work with the Track Superintendent to plan a variety of racing during the meet.
- Compiles official program for each live racing meet.
- Handicaps horses in each race by assigning weight it will carry based on known data about each horse.
- Will work with the Director of Racing Operations to determine stall applications and allocations.
- Serves as a liaison between HBPA and Lone Star Park.
- Collaborating with the Director of Racing Operations on the hiring of Racing Office personnel to ensure a smooth and well-coordinated operation.
- Responsible for adhering to all procedures and/or controls in designated area of responsibility.
- Performs all other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Education:
- Degree from four-year college/university; or 15 years related experience and/or training; or combination.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Must be knowledgeable of the Rules of Racing.
- Responsible for fostering a fun environment.
- Responsible for being gracious to all guests and co-workers.
- Responsible for promoting a positive influence in the community and participating in company-sponsored events.
- Enthusiastically supports, actively promotes and demonstrates superior customer service in accordance with department and company standards and programs.
- Ensures that behavior and appearance are in compliance with established standards.
- Maintains a professional work environment with management and staff
- Able to work at a fast pace in often crowded/noisy environment
- Excellent customer service/communication skills
- Must meet professional appearance standards as prescribed by company policy.
- Ability to read and interpret documents in English, such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals.
- Ability to read and communicate verbally in English.
- Written communication skills in English may also be required.
Training:
- 15 year work related experience and/or training; or combination.
Licenses/Certifications/Other:
- Must be able to pass a background check and receive a license or permit from any Regulatory Agency, if applicable to perform the essential job functions
- Texas Racing Commission License (TXRC)
