Position Description
Harris County Precinct 4 seeks a Community Engagement Director. This position is an integral part of the Community Engagement team. The successful candidate will work collaboratively within a team to support the implementation of strategic goals for engaging and empowering the community. The Director oversees a team of Community Engagement Coordinators that work within a defined geographical region within Precinct Four.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Assess and gain an understanding of regional community dynamics, needs, and issues by building and cultivating relationships with community members and organizations.
- Produce timely and well-researched written reports to ensure that community needs are an integral part of the more extensive Precinct decision-making process.
- Clearly and consistently communicate community needs to the Chief of Community Engagement and Government Affairs through weekly reports, proposals, and memos as needed.
- Create and execute regional direct-action plans to improve civic engagement and empower communities.
- In partnership with the Manager of Community Engagement, use reporting matrix to accurately assess successes and areas for improvement.
- Serve as a community relations liaison between residents and the office of Precinct 4, representing the office at community events by presenting certificates and resolutions and/or speaking publicly.
- Serve on project teams to execute short-term and long-term community engagement projects with excellence.
- Develop an understanding of policy priorities and communicate clearly and compellingly about policy issues affecting the Precinct Four community.
- Build coalitions with a variety of stakeholders to improve relationships, expand partner bases, provide resources to constituents, and contribute to strategies that will resolve concerns.

Requirements
Education:
- Bachelor’s degree in Social Work, Communications, Public Relations, Counseling, Sociology, Psychology, or a related field of study.
Experience:
- Three (3) years of experience addressing constituent concerns, case management, community engagement, or outreach.
Licensure:
- Texas driver’s license with a good driving record.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Proficiency in Microsoft software applications which could include Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Share Point.
- Knowledge of ways to engage communities and perform outreach efforts.
- Skilled at initiating conversations with various stakeholders to find out important matters to them and their communities.
- Ability to evaluate trends and make suggestions for improvement of community-related programs.
- Skilled at keeping conversations going surrounding issues and strategic initiatives that help remedy those issues.
