Harris County Public Library (HCPL) - History What began in 1921 and the years following as a collection of small libraries housed in stores, post offices and private homes has grown into a system of 26 branch buildings, 2 technology service centers, and 2 partner locations offering collection/circulation services. HCPL operates branches in unincorporated parts of Harris County and cities which do not have their own library systems.
Library Specialist I - Mobile Outreach (Library Administration) Overview:Duties & Responsibilities:
- Operates, drives and performs basic maintenance on outreach vehicles
- Works with outreach team to create and conduct STREAM programs and deliver services through library outreach vehicles
- Coordinates with partner organizations to support partner outreach programming
- Acts as a costumed mascot, when needed
- Promotes library services to youth and their caregivers, adults, and community groups
- Develops and maintains cooperative relationships with local schools, youth organizations, and community groups
- Circulates library materials and assists with collection shelving and maintenance

Education & Experience:
- Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university
- One (1) year of program experience (e.g., activities for all ages)
- Associates degree in any field or 60 hours of secondary education credits from an accredited college or university
- Three (3) years of program experience (e.g., activities for all ages)
- High School Diploma or G.E.D. Equivalent
- Five (5) years of program experience (e.g., activities for all ages)
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
- Excellent communication skills (verbal & written)
- Understanding of digital literacy, social media, and other emerging technology or technology trends
- Proficient in MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) and modern technology
- Ability to take initiative and work independently, with limited supervision, as well as collaboratively with HCPL and HCJPD staff
- Ability to drive a mobile library, a Ford F59 P1000 Body type vehicle (length 26’- “UPS/FEDEX” Body Type)

- This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines.
