Position Overview
Entry level position who works within one of our survey field crews to follow plans and layout specific items, including setting targets, setting prisms for EDM equipment, measuring distances, holding all types of rods and range poles, and setting survey markers.

Job Duties/Responsibilities
- Accurately and efficiently helps clear lines, establish points, tapes, chain, and level for field survey projects as assigned by Party Chief
- Hold prism pole, GNSS rover pole or level rod at designated points to assist in determining positions, elevations, and laying out stakes for map making, construction, land, and other surveys.
- Maintain ample quantities of supplies and maintain condition of County equipment.
- Report any mechanical or safety related problems to the Party Chief
- Clean and store field surveying equipment used by crew.
- Communicate and coordinate effectively with other crew members to facilitate the timely and accurate completion of assigned projects.
- Observe all safety guidelines and procedures, particularly when working around traffic or on construction sites.
- Respect the property rights of the owners of property on which the field work is being performed.
- Maintain harmonious relationships and communicate effectively with co-workers, supervisors, clients, and the public.
- Perform other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skill & Abilities (KSAs):
- Must possess the skills to work effectively and efficiently within a team.
- Basic knowledge of grammar, spelling, punctuation, and simple mathematical functions that includes the practical use of addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division as they apply to surveying.
- Must have the physical strength and stamina to work as a member of a survey crew, which includes but may not be limited to measuring with a survey chain, chopping brush and trees, driving wooden stakes with a sledgehammer, holding prism poles and level rods for long periods of time, and lifting cast iron manhole covers and inlet grates.
- Must walk and carry equipment over rough terrain, to the top of bridge piers and caps, and through occasional water-filled ditches and gullies.
- Must be able to climb ladders and scaffolding, as well as walking narrow beams.
- Must be willing to work in various weather and working conditions.
- Must also possess a valid Texas Driver's License.
Education
- Some college course work or higher
Position Type, and Typical Hours of Work:
Full-Time | Regular | 40 hours per week.
Subject to early mornings, late evenings, weekends, and holidays at times, depending upon the project or workload.
Salary:
Commensurate with experience, based on 26 pay periods.
Physical Demands and Environmental Exposure:
Most assignments will be performed in an office, meeting, or operations command center environment, but some field work may be required. May be required to work extended work hours during activation of disaster recovery operations for an unspecified length of time (varies based on the extent of the event).
This position requires bending, stooping, and lifting to 25 lbs., frequent walking, standing, sitting, reaching, and ascending/descending stairs.
