- First-Time Traveler: Not preferred, but exceptions may be made for strong cardiac candidates
Job Description
BayCare is seeking an experienced Registered Nurse (RN) to join the Med Surg/Telemetry unit (IU 3). This role is ideal for a strong cardiac-focused nurse who thrives in a fast-paced, collaborative environment and is committed to delivering high-quality, patient-centered care.
The RN will be responsible for managing complex cardiac and medical patients, monitoring telemetry, interpreting cardiac rhythms, and responding appropriately to changes in patient condition. The position requires solid clinical judgment, strong assessment skills, and the ability to work effectively with interdisciplinary teams.
Patient Types / Common Diagnoses
- Cardiac / Cardiothoracic:
- Post-cath, post-Watchman, post-TAVR
- Robotic-assisted thoracotomies (straight to floor)
- Chest pain, ACS, CHF, MI
- New-onset atrial fibrillation, arrhythmias
- Medical:
- Post-bariatric surgery
- Peritoneal dialysis (experience not required)
- COPD, GI bleeds, infections
- Neurology:
- Continuous EEG monitoring for stable seizure patients (3 dedicated rooms)
Patient Ratios
- Days: 1:4
- Nights: 1:5β6
Required Certifications
- Active RN License
- BLS (required)
- ACLS (required)
Required Skills & Experience
- Experience with cardiac and medical telemetry patients
- Cardiac rhythm interpretation
- TR bands and post-cath femoral monitoring (no sheaths)
- IV starts, Foley catheter insertion/care, NG tubes, wound care
- Initiation of Tikosyn therapy
- Experience with non-titrating drips: Amiodarone, Cardizem, Nitroglycerin, Heparin (required)
- EPIC EMR experience required
- (If a candidate lacks proficiency in a few areas, manager approval may be considered)
Support & Resources
- CNA support: 3 (days), 2 (nights)
- Charge Nurse (takes full patient assignment)
- Phlebotomy: 24/7
- Resource RN: 24/7
- SWAT RN: 24/7
- Respiratory Therapy: 24/7
- Hospitalist & Intensivist coverage: 24/7
- Remote Tele Techs (RN signs off on strips once per shift)
- EPIC Rover phones for communication
Technology & Equipment
- EMR: EPIC
- IV Pumps: Alaris
- Medication Dispensing: Pyxis
- Monitors: GE bedside monitors with alarms
Floating
- Floating within scope of practice at the facility
- May float to PCU/ICU for telemetry patients only
Orientation
- New Employee Orientation (NEO)
- 1 unit orientation shift (additional shift may be approved if needed)
Schedule & Expectations
- Shift Options:
- Days: 7:00 AM β 7:30 PM
- Nights: 7:00 PM β 7:30 AM
- Weekend Rotation: Every other weekend or less (unit needs)
- On-Call: Possible 1 contingency shift per 6-week period
- Holidays: 50% during contract
- RTO: Up to 7 days approved
- Scheduling Cycle: 6-week schedules (block scheduling possible but not guaranteed)
