What are the responsibilities and job description for the Ropes Course & Nature Specialist position at Hockomock Young Men's Christian Association, Inc?
The Hockomock Area YMCA is hiring Ropes Course & Nature Specialists (RCS) for Summer 2024. RCSs are responsible for overseeing the operation of the ropes course, including high and low elements, for Summer Camp. On the ropes course, the RCS ensures physical, mental, social, and emotional safety for campers, ages 8-15. The RCS is responsible for setting up, planning, and safely guiding multiple participants through a series of programmed elements to achieve desired goals. This includes the promotion of self-confidence, positive group dynamics, and expansion of problem-solving abilities. The position runs from June to August each summer, working 25-30 hours per week during the camp season.
Essential Functions
- Maintains daily ropes course operations while upholding and operating under local operating procedures
- Prepares the course for use, takes down, and properly stores equipment at the end of each session
- Communicates with Camp Directors and colleagues regarding programming
- Leads large and small groups through a progression of teambuilding activities, low ropes elements, high challenge course elements, and reflective discussions tailored to program goals
- Facilitates programs in an environment that is safe, accepting of all, and outcome oriented
- Utilizes the ropes course as an opportunity for groups to recognize and safely reach their potential, to promote self-confidence, positive group dynamics, and the expansion of problem-solving abilities
- Participates in and assists with facilitating trainings and professional development opportunities
- Promotes discussion and processing so that participants’ experiences can be integrated into their everyday life
