What are the responsibilities and job description for the Estimator position at LaForce?
LaForce is one of the largest distributors of commercial doors, frames and hardware in the United States. We are looking for an Estimator to join our Wood Door team. In this entry-level role you will be responsible for the wood door portion of project estimates. This includes reviewing, analyzing and interpreting the project specifications and then compiling a bid for the project. No prior experience necessary, just the willingness to learn and grow.
Life as an Estimator has a mix of variety and routine. While the daily routines and structure of each bid remains the same, there is uniqueness and variety within each bid. This keeps the day-to-day work interesting and engaging, providing an environment that allows continuous learning and growth.
Major Responsibilities
Review and interpret blueprint details as required.
Accurately price estimates utilizing manufacturer’s internal pricing programs or by review of quotes prepared by the manufacturers
Resolve discrepancies or inaccuracies and communicate effectively with sales, take-off staff, management personnel, customers, and/or architects when required.
- Accurately document pertinent estimating information using the Document Management program.

Manage the timing of submission of bids by striving to meet established bid deadlines and proactively communicating when issues arise.
- Gain and maintain a thorough working knowledge of the various wood door suppliers’ products, industry standards and trends.
- Be able to work independently, but also work within the framework of a team concept in completing the workload required
- Build and maintain relationships with co-workers and vendors
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree (B. A.) from four-year college or university; or one to two years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel
- Must be willing to learn LaForce computer software.
- Ability to calculate figures and amounts
- Good verbal and written communication skills
