Visit to find out more.About the RoleMLex is seeking a senior reporter to cover intellectual property regulation, legislation and enforcement with a significant focus on the United States Patent and Trademark Office and the federal courts.The ideal candidate will have some experience covering Congress, the federal court system and state or federal agencies; and will have enthusiasm for partnering with other reporters.MLex is a highly collaborative environment, and the reporter will frequently work with reporters focused on similar topics in Brussels, São Paulo, Silicon Valley, Hong Kong and elsewhere. The job offers opportunities to break news on topics such as patents, copyrights, trademarks, and trade secrets. The successful candidate will have the ability to write in-depth stories about the implications of legislative, regulatory and judicial matters.ResponsibilitiesWriting clear, well-organized news stories and analysisLocating and organizing relevant information from public documents and other sourcesWriting one-paragraph summaries identifying key information in those documentsCreating and modifying portfolios with relevant informationCoordinating with reporters and editors to ensure that portfolios are completeRequirementsExperience covering intellectual property or related mattersExperience guiding junior reportersPossess a Bachelor’s degree in Journalism or legal backgroundHave solid writing skills and a demonstrated ability to be proactive in shaping MLex’s coverage.Have the ability to provide analysis of events and documents, illuminating context and big-picture trendsPossess a background in law, and / or experience in news or legal organizations is preferredWork in a way that works for youWe promote a healthy work / life balance across the organization.
