Summary

The Senior Accountant performs immediate professional work involving the preparation and/or maintenance of fiscal and related records; does related work as required. Work is performed under general supervision of the Controller. Supervision is exercised over subordinate personnel. Acts in absence of, or at the discretion of, the Controller.

Duties and Qualifications


The duties listed below may not include all responsibilities that the person in this role may be asked to perform. Incumbent may be required to perform other related duties as assigned.

  • Performs difficult analytical professional and administrative work related to planning, preparing, maintaining, monitoring and evaluating complex financial records and reports
  • Maintains complex accounting records in compliance with State and Federal regulations and guidelines
  • Reviews, analyzes, evaluates and prepares complex monthly financial transactions, reports, analyses, and reconciliations relating to all operations, capital projects, fixed assets, investments and debt
  • Assists in the training and supervision of staff on departmental and accounting policies, procedures and automated systems
  • Provides expertise and assistance to the Chief Financial Officer, Controller, and other Department Heads as requested by carrying out studies and analyses that contribute and enhance management’s ability to perform their required duties
  • Assists in the formulation, documentation and administration of accounting policies and procedures
  • Controls and maintains general ledger activity by establishing new accounts, deleting accounts, inactivating accounts and closing monthly and year end accounting periods
  • Reconciles accounts and prepares corrective action for revenue, expense and balance sheet accounts; reviews, authorizes and posts journal entries, budget actions and adjusting entries
  • Oversees and authorizes petty cash replenishments and internal controls; conducts audits on funds
  • Prepares quarterly and yearly audit worksheets; compiles reports and provides additional financial information
  • Oversees and approves bond reimbursements, accounts receivable, software reconciliations, grant reimbursements, accounts payable checks, performance bonds, health insurance and dental plan payments, etc.
  • Provides assistance to outside auditors by preparing work papers and financial reports as required for the annual audit
  • Assists with the gathering of financial information and statistical section of the comprehensive annual financial report (CAFR)
  • Reviews and verifies postings to appropriate ledgers and subsidiary accounts
  • Reviews, reconciles and moves accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll and general ledger holding files; prepares year end revenue accruals and adjustments; reviews and approves cost allocation reports
  • Assists in preparing the Annual Financial Report footnotes
  • Performs analysis and data entry of FR2900 and FR2644 to the Federal Reserve Bank
  • Reviews and communicates with management on the Federal Reserve Requirement balances
  • Assists the Controller in supervising the month-end accounting process
  • Assists in the review process of daily/weekly/monthly general ledger reconciliations
  • Coordinates Official Checks files with Operations prior to escheating funds to state during their yearly reporting
  • Supervises and trains lower level accounting staff; manages the daily activities, coaching, evaluating and disciplining of reporting staff
  • Complies with all federal and state laws and regulations, and all established bank policies and procedures
  • Maintains current knowledge of all rules, regulations and laws as they apply to BSA/OFAC/USA Patriot Act/CIP/AML.

QUALIFICATIONS

Individual abilities may result in some deviation from these guidelines.

  • A self-starting individual who possesses a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in Accounting and 5-8 years of related experience, with at least 1 year in a supervisory capacity
  • Must be PC literate and knowledgeable of spreadsheet and word processing software
  • Problem solving skills and the ability to make sound financial decisions, as well as flexibility and professionalism are required
  • Attention to detail and a high degree of mental concentration are required, as well as the ability to change quickly from one task to another
  • Good organizational, interpersonal, and communications skills are also required
  • Must be able to meet deadlines, work in a highly stressful environment, and perform a variety of tasks with numerous interruptions
  • Position requires the ability to sit in front of a computer screen for long periods of time, and may cause visual strain
  • Prior commercial banking experience is preferred
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish is desired

ORGANIZATION

  • This position reports to the Controller
  • This position oversees the Accounting Department’s staff

TRAINING REQUIREMENTS

All employees are required to attend scheduled mandatory trainings and complete online regulatory compliance training courses applicable to their specific job function. In all situations, employees must ensure that their actions fully comply with all federal banking laws and regulations, including internal bank policies and procedures. Failure to adhere to these requirements will be grounds for disciplinary action, including probation and possible termination.

  • Alternate work arrangements such as telecommuting or working from home are not permitted by Lone Star National Bank
