Starting Salary During Training: $14.24
Salary After Certification: $17.88
EMT Recruits will attend a paid four month training in preparation for obtaining an EMT Certification. Successful recruits will be moved to a full-time permanent EMT position upon certification as an EMT.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Participates in an emergency medical technician training program
Participates in a battery of exams to determine suitability for the position of EMT Recruit
UNDER GENERAL SUPERVISION
Attends a training program and receives formal instruction and training in administering medical treatment to injured, sick or incapacitated persons; federal, state and local regulations, laws and ordinances; and department policies and procedures
Accompanies staff on field assignments to complete clinical and field rotation, and assists in lifting and carrying patients and equipment
Participates in EMS / EMT practical training including driving, lifting and carrying patients, patient care, documentation and a variety of other procedures and activities related to EMS work
Takes examinations to measure knowledge gained and progress made
Performs related work
High school diploma or the equivalent
EQUIVALENCY
An equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted
OTHER MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
Must wear personal protective equipment as mandated by OSHA
Must be vaccinated for hepatitis B, have provided evidence of immunity, or have signed a declination form within ten days of initial assignment
Must be a minimum of 18 years of age
Must not have been convicted of a felony or have any criminal action pending against them
Must pass a pre-employment drug screening
Must pass a pre-employment physical examination
Must pass a pre-employment polygraph test
Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license
Must work a varied schedule
Misdemeanor convictions will be considered on an individual
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
Must complete a prescribed 180-hour emergency medical technician training course-basic approved by the State of Kentucky
Must be able to obtain certification as an Emergency Medical Technician-Basic in the State of Kentucky within 12 weeks of starting the coursework
Must obtain certification before the fourth attempt
Not currently subject to disciplinary action pursuant to KRS Chapter 311A that would prevent certification as an EMT-Basic in the State of Kentucky
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS AND WORKING CONDITIONS
Meets regular and punctual attendance standards and any special needs of the position as determined by management, including mandatory overtime and performing related work
Lifts and carries items weighing in excess of 100 pounds in a team setting
Spends prolonged periods of time sitting, standing, walking, stooping, squatting, crawling, climbing, lifting, carrying, lowering, pushing/pulling, and twisting at waist
Transports items or objects of varying weights in individual or team settings
Ability to learn emergency medical care and other emergency incident information and procedures
Ability to tolerate stress, concentrate amid distractions and make difficult decisions
Demonstrate ability to maintain composure during stressful situations
Ability to communicate effectively with people of various educational and cultural backgrounds
