POSITION SUMMARY
The Tribal Injury Prevention Cooperative Agreement Program (TIPCAP) Coordinator is a grant funded full-time position who directly manages the Indian Health Service (IHS) multi-year TIPCAP grant for Maniilaq Association. The TIPCAP Coordinator will plan, implement, and evaluate all TIPCAP activities, ensuring all objectives are met and accurately reported on. This new initiative will address unintentional fall injury hospitalizations in our elderly population by establishing exercise and balance programs, promote evidence-based fall prevention interventions, and coordinating education and outreach activities. This position works closely with the Injury Prevention Specialist and reports directly to the Environmental Health Manager within the Office of Environmental Health.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Coordinates TIPCAP activities with tribes, local, regional, state and federal agencies, and other non-federal agencies and organizations to ensure the best possible outcomes for the TIPCAP project.
2. Establishes appropriate project objectives and develops a five-year plan based on the best available injury data and evidenced-based or promising and innovative strategies.
3. Meets the administrative requirements of the IHS TIPCAP grant including semi-annul and final grant reports, annual TIPCAP newsletter articles, attending mandatory annual grantee workshops, and participating in IHS/contractor site visits, conference calls, and webinars.
4. Maintains a record keeping system routinely collecting and analyzing activities, disseminating results and prioritizing TIPCAP activities.
5. Develops and maintains an evaluation plan for project data collection including baseline, timeline, and outcomes to ensure accurate reporting of all activities and expenditures of TIPCAP funds.
6. Incorporate injury prevention evidence-based strategies that align IHS and Maniilaq Association injury prevention program priorities
7. Reviews, selects, and develops culturally relevant educational materials related to fall prevention, safe homes and injury prevention to promote safe behavior and empower communities.
8. Develop partnerships and coalitions to share resources, expertise and collaborate in planning, implementing, and evaluating injury prevention projects.
9. Successfully complete appropriate exercise and balance program instructor training, the IHS Introduction to Injury Prevention Course (Level 1) and Intermediate Injury Prevention Course (Level II).
10. Establish agreements with each village IRA office participating in the project and support local exercise and balance instructors whenever they need.
11. Assists the Injury Prevention Specialist with the purchase, inventory, and distribution of fall prevention supplies and equipment.
12. Travels to villages within the service area to support and evaluate exercise and balance instructors and IRA staff.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
TIPCAP Coordinator I
High School Diploma or GED equivalent. Minimum 1 year leadership experience with youth or adults. This position requires the ability to understand fundamentals and concepts in public health and epidemiology as it relates to injury prevention.
Must have experience with computer-based word processing and spreadsheet applications. Must have ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing, be able to lift 40 lbs, and travel frequently in small single-engine planes. Must possess a valid Driver’s License and have a driving record that allows employee to be insured to drive Maniilaq Vehicles.
TIPCAP Coordinator II
Must meet all the requirements of the TIPCAP Coordinator I, plus have related Associates degree or 3 years of leadership experience.
TIPCAP Coordinator III
Meet all the requirements of the TIPCAP Coordinator II, plus have a related Bachelors’ degree or Five (5) years leadership experience. Preferred applicants will possess a Certified Health Education Specialist (CHES) credential or other appropriate professional credential.
