General Summary
Responsible for leadership, oversight, and effective day-to-day management of Central Kitchen Bakery, Hotline, and Meal Assembly staff and activities; ensuring compliance with food production and quality assurance practices; managing department budget; training, development, and supervision of staff.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities (Essential Functions)
- Oversee the efficient, safe management of the Central Kitchen food production staff and activities; ensure food service guidelines are maintained, and food handling quality assurance procedures are enforced
- Oversee production in compliance with Meals on Wheels People operating procedures and all applicable federal, state, and local food processing and food safety standards
- Monitor daily production and schedules to meet company goals
- Report daily production/productivity issues and results to the Director of CK Operations
- Responsible for hiring, training, development, and supervision of department leads and staff
- Support connection of individual contributions with organizational and departmental goals to develop team commitment and motivate team members
- Monitor, manage, and improve employee productivity and provide constructive feedback and coaching
- Work collaboratively and supportively and in a positive manner with managers and leaders across the organization to collectively solve issues, build partnerships, create policies and procedures, build staff morale and develop strategic plans and benchmarks
- Oversee production schedule and meal production including, management of production menu cycle schedule and purchase of product to meet production needs as scheduled.
- Oversee supplemental meal ordering and distribution
- Assist with fundraising as needed
- Participate in continuous learning to build and develop technical proficiency, business acumen, intercultural competence, and effective leadership skills, which promote innovation and collaboration
- Ensure that all activities operate consistently and ethically within the vision, mission, and values of Meals on Wheels People
- Other duties as assigned
Education & Knowledge
- Bachelor's degree in food technology, manufacturing, other related field or equivalent industry experience
- Current Food Handler’s card
- Current ServSafe certification or the ability to obtain one within 6 months of hire
- Demonstrated knowledge of bulk food production and distribution safety procedures including, federal, state and local regulations
- Knowledge of preventative maintenance procedures
- Valid Driver’s license to perform work duties
Any satisfactory combination of experience, training and/or education which ensures the ability to perform the work may substitute for the above qualifications.
Skills, Abilities & Experience
- Minimum of five years of experience in management, supervision and development of staff, preferably in food manufacturing environment.
- Experience in bulk food production, “cook chill,” re-thermalization and baking
- Experience in highly regulated food nutrition program including; scheduling, quality assurance, coordination of cycle menu, budget development and oversight, and purchasing.
- Successful leadership experience in management and development of staff in a team-oriented environment
- Demonstrated hands-on experience and proficiency with computer applications and systems, including, MS Office. Comfortable with learning new computer applications and web-based applications
- Skill, motivation and ability to effectively communicate and work with diverse populations to build a team oriented, positive and productive work environment
- Responsive with great follow-through skills and ability to build trust and maintain constructive relationships across the organization
- Excellent organizational and time management skills including the ability to set priorities and organize multiple projects. Proven ability to multi-task, problem solve, make effective and timely decisions, and identify creative solutions
- Ability to work a flexible schedule, including some weekends and evenings to support Meals on Wheels People events
