Mercadien, a full service, mid-sized accounting and financial services firm in Princeton, New Jersey is currently seeking a Human Resources Generalist to join our growing team.


As the HR Generalist, you are responsible for the day-to-day operations including compensation and benefits administration, employee relations and communication, compliance reporting, and talent acquisition. The HR Generalist is also trusted with the maintenance of all personnel files. This position plays an integral role in maintaining the firm’s status as an employer of choice. The ideal candidate must be within commuting distance to the Princeton area.


RESPONSIBILITIES

The Human Resources Generalist reports to the Director of Human Resources, providing superior support and coordination in the following areas:

  • Coordinates the entire new hire experience, including experienced candidates, college graduates and interns
  • Recruits, interviews, and facilitates the hiring of qualified job applicants for open positions; collaborates with Human Resources Director and other key firm project managers and stake holders to understand skills and competencies required for open positions
  • Research new strategies to stay current with the extremely competitive public accounting labor market
  • Conducts or acquires background checks and employee eligibility verifications
  • Facilitate on-boarding of new hires and assist in organizing training & development initiatives 
  • Performs routine tasks required to administer and execute human resource programs including but not limited to compensation, benefits, and leave; disciplinary matters; disputes and investigations; performance and talent management; productivity, recognition, and morale; occupational health and safety; and training and development Assists in the off-boarding process for all terminated personnel
  • Organizes the employee performance review process (30-60-90 day, Interim, Annual) 
  • Assist in the development and implementation of human resource policies 
  • Conducts annual compensation and benefit studies
  • Handles employment-related inquiries from applicants, employees, and supervisors, referring complex and/or sensitive matters to the appropriate staff
  • Employ a strategy to maintain people, leveraging the fully integrated HRIS and company intranet platforms
  • Promote firm culture through firm-wide fun events and initiatives
  • Maintains compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations, and recommended best practices; reviews policies and practices to maintain compliance
  • Maintains knowledge of trends, best practices, regulatory changes, and new technologies in human resources, talent management, and employment law
  • Performs other duties as assigned 


Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field
  • 5 years of experience in the human resources field
  • Experience with Paylocity (or similar fully integrated HRIS system) highly desirable
  • PHR or SPHR certification preferred
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to command a room, enthusiastically presenting new hires and firm initiatives
  • Approachable and trustworthy demeanor to manage conflict and confidential situations
  • Strong organizational and time management skills, and the ability to multi-task
  • Must be able to work independently and/or as a part of a team
  • Strong proficiency with Microsoft Office and other computer software applications
