What are the responsibilities and job description for the Recreation Leader Senior-Parks & Recreation position at Metropolitan Government of Nashville & Davidson County?
Metro’s Parks and Recreation Department has something for everyone through its variety of strategically placed facilities and programs. Parks offers cultural arts and fitness classes, dog parks and nature programs and 16,000 acres of open space, including 121 parks and 19 greenways. - Oversee special projects for the Community Recreation division.
- Evaluate programs.
- Assist in budget preparation and administration; prepare cost estimates for budget recommendations; monitor and control expenditures.
- Recommend and implement creative programs based on new developments in the recreation field.
- Assist with planning and implementation of large departmental activities, events, etc.
- Maintain personnel records.
- In the absence of the supervisor, act at his/her direction to oversee the program.
- Supervise work assignments of employees.
- Assist as needed at multiple locations in the absence of a supervisor.
- Lead, participate in and oversee a variety of recreational and sports activities in an assigned location.
- Supervise patrons and maintains order and discipline.
- Transport groups to various outings and sports activities.
- Provide feedback to the supervisor regarding program development.
- Observe necessary precautions to ensure the safety of recreation participants and spectators.
- Attend mandatory in-service training and meetings.
OR
(2) years of college credit in physical education, recreation or a related field from an accredited college or university and 1 year of leading, coaching or supervising various recreational or sports activities.
Successful candidates will have a high degree of self-motivation and organizing skills.
LICENSES REQUIRED
Valid Driver License

Note: Per Metro Ordinance No. SO94-1078. All employees of the Metropolitan Government shall be residents of the State of Tennessee or become residents of the state within six (6) months of employment as a prerequisite to employment with the Metropolitan Government.
