This position announcement is for Recreation Leader – Aquatics, a full-time Civil Service position in the Parks & Recreation Department. This position is responsible for planning, organizing, and conducting aquatic activities. Applicants must be able to work with diverse populations and be available to work in any location. Employees must be physically capable of participating in aquatic activities.
The position often requires working evenings and some weekends and works in both an indoor and outdoor environment.

- Leading various groups in indoor/outdoor aquatic activities.
- Providing front desk services including greeting customers, answering phones, collecting fees, receipting admissions and other operational revenue using a computer point of sale system, and checking out recreational equipment.
- Maintaining Pools in accordance with Federal, State, and local regulations which include maintaining pool water chemistry, cleaning locker rooms, operating pressure washer, vacuuming and backwashing pools, cleaning pool area, emptying trash, repairing swim meet timing equipment, etc.
- Supervising facility and patrons, maintaining order, and enforcing discipline procedures.
- Keeping records pertaining to attendance, programs, etc.
- Administering basic first aid in cases of minor injury.
- Performing various repairs, maintenance and housekeeping duties to ensure high standards of facility cleanliness and operational equipment.
- Overseeing the work assignments of part-time and/or seasonal staff or volunteers.
- Providing public information as requested.
- Submitting request for equipment and repairs.
- Performing standard life guarding duties for swimmers using community pools and swimming areas.
- Organizing set up and operating swim meets.
- Teaching American Red Cross classes to employees and patrons.
License Required/Certifications:
- Valid Driver’s License
- American Red Cross Lifeguard Certification (Other nationally recognized Lifeguard Certification will be accepted.)
- Aquatics Facility Operator (AFO) or Certified Pool Operator (CPO) must be obtained within 6 months of employment.

- Bachelor’s Degree in Recreation, Physical Education, or related field from an accredited college or university
- One (1) year experience working as a certified lifeguard at an aquatic/pool facility
- Experience using computer programs including Microsoft Office Suite in a professional setting
