Job Overview:
We are seeking a Certified Pharmacy Technician to join our team in a hospital setting. The ideal candidate will have experience in both sterile compounding and automated dispensing systems. This role involves supporting the pharmacy department's operations, including order filling, medication distribution, IV preparation, and inventory management.
Key Responsibilities:
- Order Filling & Inventory:
- Accurately fill orders for pharmacist review and dispensing.
- Prepare extemporaneous preparations, restock medication carts, and replenish emergency kits.
- Conduct medication cart/bin exchanges, manage bulk medication transfers, and return unused or discontinued medications.
- Document all processes with legible signatures.
- Medication Distribution & Returns:
- Handle medication requests via phone, window, fax, and computer promptly.
- Distribute orders for pharmacist processing and deliver medications to designated areas using pneumatic tubes, hand delivery, or courier services.
- Retrieve and sort returns from nursing stations.
- Team Collaboration & Departmental Support:
- Support departmental goals and demonstrate flexibility in roles and responsibilities.
- Actively contribute to the Atlantic Health strategic goals.
- Sterile Preparations:
- Prepare IV medications aseptically and efficiently, including Total Parenteral Nutrition (TPN) and hazardous drugs.
- Batch and document all required information for IV medications and assist in coordinating treatments to minimize waste.
- Maintain a strong knowledge of sterile techniques and IV equipment.
- Automated Dispensing Machines:
- Accurately fill automated dispensing machines and resolve issues with failed drawers or stockouts.
- Manage discrepancy reports, remove expired medications, and perform monthly inspections.
- Complete daily reconciliation processes and escalate equipment issues as needed.
- Repackaging & Inventory Control:
- Repackage oral medications and ensure proper barcoding.
- Check expiration dates, manage recalled medications, and organize supplies in designated areas.
- Handle ancillary labeling and documentation for inventory processes.
- Performance Improvement & Customer Service:
- Provide courteous and professional support to patients, staff, and allied health professionals.
- Participate in performance improvement initiatives and cost-saving measures.
- Maintain positive communication and assist with independent projects, teams, and committees.
Qualifications:
- Education & Certification:
- Active registration with the State of New Jersey Board of Pharmacy.
- Current Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) certification.
- Experience:
- Minimum of 2 years of hospital pharmacy experience preferred.
- Oncology/infusion center experience is a plus.
- Strong sterile compounding (IV mixing) experience is required for day shift technicians.
Schedule & Shift Details:
- Overnight Shift (7 on/7 off):
- 7 consecutive overnight shifts, followed by 7 days off.
- Hours: 8:00 PM - 7:00 AM.
- Day Shift (Monday-Friday):
- 5 days per week with every other weekend rotation.
- Flexible start times (e.g., 7:00 AM, 8:00 AM, 9:00 AM) with corresponding end times (3:00 PM, 4:00 PM).
- Hours per Week: 40 hours
- Hours per Day: 8 hours
Job Type: Contract
Pay: $20.00 - $25.00 per hour
