- Support day-to-day operations, projects, or programs aligned with the host organization’s mission
- Participate in supervised, discipline-appropriate activities and observations. Collaborate with professions and staff within the organization
- Attend meeting, trainings, and professional development opportunities
- Adhere to site-specific policies, ethical standards, and professional expectations
- Complete required reflections, documentation, or portfolio components for academic credit

- Collaborate with healthcare professionals to understand interdisciplinary roles within clinical or health services settings
- Observe and reflect on professional conduct, ethical responsibilities, patient interaction protocols, and healthcare site policies
- Demonstrate familiarity with healthcare operations, including documentation practices, regulatory compliance (e.g., HIPAA), and infection control standards
- Participate in supervised health-related activities—such as patient intake, administrative support, observation of procedures, community health outreach, data entry, or similar tasks—as permitted by site protocols and student qualifications
- Develop a reflective portfolio or final report outlining career insights, skill development, and professional goals informed by the internship experience
Pathways to Education: Expected Learning Outcomes
In addition to completing a minimum of 120 on-site internship hours, students in education-focused placements will be expected to:
- Design, deliver, and assess student learning through at least one lesson plan under the supervision of a certified or qualified teacher
- Collaborate with the teaching supervisor on classroom management strategies to foster an effective and inclusive learning environment
- Increase familiarity with the professional expectations, work environment, and core responsibilities of full-time educators through observation and reflection, including supporting diverse learners, administering assessments, engaging with families, co-teaching, managing classroom space and materials, and using instructional technology
- Develop and articulate a teaching philosophy as part of a teaching portfolio, submitted to the New College faculty sponsor at the conclusion of supervised practice, demonstrating professional growth and self-awareness

- Two years of postsecondary education (AA or at least third/junior year standing) and are currently in good academic standing.
- At least one relevant New College course (1 unit/4 credit hours) related to industries/disciplines of pathways program.
- Current undergraduate student pursuing or exploring a related field of study
- Interest in gaining hands-on experience in education, health, or a related professional setting
- Strong communication, professionalism, and interpersonal skills
- Willingness to learn, observe, and engage in reflective practice
- Ability to follow site-specific policies, safety procedures, and supervision guidelines
