What are the responsibilities and job description for the Educational Aide-Paraprofessional position at New Lebanon Local Schools?
Educational Aide-Paraprofessional (7.0 hours. per day, 5 days a week), to be assigend to Dixie Elementary. The approximate hours for this position will be Monday - Friday 8:00 a.m. - 3:30 p.m. (178 days worked plus 8 paid holidays).
Job Description:
Under general supervision to help student with personal hygiene, mobility, transferring, feeding, and other personal assistance needs. Learn the proper methods to assist student under the guidance of the assigned classroom teacher or licensed health care professional (e.g., toileting, catheterization, wheelchair transfers, mobility, lifting, carrying, positioning, operation of personal assistive devices, etc.). Communicate high expectations for student. Show an active interest in their progress. Offer help when student ask for or their behavior suggests they need assistance. Allow student to seek their highest degree of independence. Solve student concerns discretely. Actively participate in recreational, leisure, and community activities associated with the assigned student’s educational program. Provide close supervision and take reasonable precautions to ensure student safety.
Minimum Qualifications include but not limited to:
High school diploma or equivalent. Valid State of Ohio educational aide permit and ESEA qualified. To be “ESEA Qualified” you must have successfully completed the following criteria: Pass the examination for paraprofessionals prescribed by the State Board of Education (ParaPro) or an associate degree (or higher) from an accredited institution of higher education; or at least 2 years of study at an accredited institution of high education (defined as 48 semester hours or 72 quarter hours). A clear record as determined by the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Identification and Investigation and/or the Federal Bureau of Investigation. Ability to learn skills appropriate for the position. Ability to learn and use basic sign language techniques. Demonstrated maturity and the ability to work with students and their families. Demonstrated maturity and the ability to work with students and their families.
