What are the responsibilities and job description for the Recovery Coach position at New Paths Inc?

Responsibilities include:

Non-clinical, peer-based activities, engage, educate, and support an individual to successfully make life changes necessary to recover from substance abuse and/or mental illness disorders. Support and adhere to the NPI Code of Ethics, work rules, policies, plans and procedures to promote a safe and secure environment for the residents, visitors and employees of New Paths.

  • Directly initiate the individual to recovery community environments.
  • Link the individual to needed services and assisting in navigating systems and addressing barriers to independence and recovery.
  • Directly accompany the individual and “walking” them through new environments, services, and systems, when appropriate and necessary.
  • Demonstrate the ability to work with diverse populations, cultural backgrounds, and comfortably in diverse community settings.
  • Initiates and develops individual Recovery/Wellness Plans that are updated quarterly for the person served.
  • Maintains documentation according to Standard Practices to provide the quality and continuity of care.
    • Completes chart documentation accurately and in a timely manner according to Standard Practice.
    • Ensures all documentation is legible, dates, and contains proper signature and credentialing according to Standard Practices.
  • Maintain commitment to professional competency by maintaining professional growth and development.
    • Obtains continuing education units (minimum of 20 hours) for professional growth and development as required. Documentation confirmed.
    • Participates in performance appraisal process by identifying own learning needs and individual goals with supervisor.
    • Maintains knowledge of current literature in the profession.
  • Contributes to the efficient operation of the program.
    • Participates in staff meetings/team meetings/peer review as required.
    • Keeps current on changes in program and Standard Practices as demonstrated by attending staff meetings, reading meeting minutes, memos, and reviewing Standard Practices manual as needed.
    • Maintains confidentiality according to New Paths Standard Practices, federal and state law at all times.
    • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Maintains and contributes to the values of New Paths.
    • Demonstrates quality of care by practicing according to New Paths Code of Ethics and Work Rules, as well as codes of ethics related to professional certification and/or development plan.
    • Provides positive, supportive communication to persons served, visitors, families and other staff.
    • Demonstrates support of co-workers by providing constructive feedback and using the appropriate New Paths mechanisms to resolve problems.
    • Supports the New Paths program and values by positive community interactions as indicated by positive feedback from referral sources, persons served, and the community and when evidenced by satisfaction questionnaires and outcome results.

QUALIFICATIONS

Required:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • CCAR or MDHHS RC certification.
  • Basic computer skills.
  • Must refrain from the use of mood altering substances while employed at New Paths, Inc.
  • Continue to engage in preferred recovery pathway while employed at New Paths, Inc.

Preferred:

  • Completion of MCBAP requirements, CPRM-M credential, State of MI/MDHHS certification requirements.
  • Valid driver’s license or access to public transportation.
  • More than one year work related experience.


Physical Demand:

Duties conducted within a professional office setting and access areas within the building with stairs. Regular computer keyboard use and some light lifting (10-15 lbs.) and use of stairs are required. Some travel may be associated with the position.
