Position Details
Responsibilities:
- Assists in implementing the daily program under the direction of the Lead Teacher
- Assists in conducting developmentally appropriate activities for children in a safe environment
- Assists in maintaining a clean and orderly physical environment
- Assists in conducting assessments on children’s growth and development
- Attends and actively contributes to staff planning and evaluation meetings and professional meetings
- Appropriately shares information with other staff members
- Assists the Lead Teacher in any appropriate way
- Maintains confidentiality of children, parents, and fellow staff members
- Knows and complies with the policies and procedures set forth in the staff handbook and any additional verbal directives
- Coordinates other projects as directed by the Lead Teacher, Directors, and Executive Director
- Adheres to physical demands requiring frequent lifting, carrying, transferring, of objects of a considerable weight
- Perform duties related to and in support of the educational process and care and safety of LCA learners
- Assists (individual/ small groups/ whole groups) of learners with educational activities as directed by the teacher or higher-level personnel.
- Carries through with center-wide learner management, assessment procedures (organizing portfolios), center-wide and classroom curriculum strategies and techniques and any other instructional and developmental methods as directed by the teacher and/or higher-level personnel.
10%- Safety
- Completes task in a safe manner as prescribed by the NSU Safety Department
- Maintains a neat and orderly work environment
- Dresses appropriately for the job assigned/FOLLOWS UNIFORM CODE/displays logo (identification tag) at all times while on duty
- Does not bring or direct learners to go into adult spaces within the center
- Reports any observed unsafe conditions/ incidents/ injury/ damage/ suspicion of abuse or neglect and the like IMMEDIATELY to administration AND provides written documentation of observation
10%- Professional Attitude and Conduct
- Establishes and maintains appropriate respectful, harmonious relationship with administration, center and university staff and visitors
- Seeks, shares, and respects ideas of others
- Exhibits a caring POSITIVE attitude towards others
- Participates in professional growth activities (seminars, conferences, workshops) as assigned
- Understands and interprets written and verbal instructions from lead teacher/Director/Coordinator/Executive Director/Board Chairs/University Upper-Leadership
- Assists lead teacher in lesson planning and compiling data and materials for learners as directed
- Courteous and polite to parents/families and any other individual in the center
- Reports any abuses of policy or negative situations through the appropriate chain of command (if direct supervisor cannot solve the issue brought before him/her, the Para is to proceed to the next higher-level supervisor).
- Reports to work at the assigned time
- Attends work consistently
- Contacts Operations Coordinator (and thereafter supervisors) when absent
- Signs in/out as directed, follows lunch and break procedures, maintains Ratio and learner safety at all times

- While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand, walk, speak, hear and lift up children/weighted objects. Occasionally the employee will bend or twist at the neck more than the average person. While performing the duties of this job, the employee may occasionally push or lift up to 50 lbs. such as boxes of books and carts. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision such as to read handwritten or typed material, and the ability to adjust focus.
