Primary Purpose of Position
The research associate will assist the development of AI and data analytics labs, and AI-based educational materials for training graduate and undergraduate students with the artificial intelligence and machine learning tools applied to precision agriculture, bioprocessing, and bioenergy conversion.
The successful candidate will conduct research on AI technologies and predictive analytics applied to bioenergy, precision agriculture, and bioprocessing for the two projects funded by U.S. Department of Agriculture and NSF, assist training graduate and undergraduate students, and participate in proposal and manuscript writing.

Primary Function of Organizational Unit
North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University is an 1890 land-grant doctoral research university dedicated to learning, discovery, and community engagement. The College of Agriculture and Environmental Sciences is a national leader that serves and engages the citizens of the state of North Carolina, the nation, and the world through preeminence in agricultural and environmental sciences education, research, discovery, and innovation. The College has four research clusters in (1) sustainable agricultural food systems, (2) food safety, food security, nutrition, health and wellness, (3) family and community well-being, and (4) environmental and natural resources systems. The College houses the departments of natural resources and environmental design (NRED), animal sciences, family and consumer sciences, and agribusiness, applied economics and agriscience education. The NRED Department is seeking excellence in teaching, research, and extension in improving the natural environment for long-term sustainable productivity. The NRED department offers three programs of Bachelor of Science in biological engineering, agricultural and environmental systems, and landscape architecture, two concentrations in environmental studies, and sustainable land and food systems under the college program of Master of Science in agriculture and environmental systems, and a concentration in sustainable agriculture and environmental science under the College PhD Program in agriculture and environmental sciences.
Minimum Requirements
The selected research associate must have been awarded a Ph.D. or equivalent doctorate in the field of biological engineering, agricultural engineering, chemical engineering or nanoengineering.
The research associate should have a demonstrated research focus in bioenergy, value-added processing of agricultural wastes, and bioprocess modeling and analysis.

Preferred Years Experience, Skills, Training, Education
Preference will be given to a candidate who has research experience in agricultural engineering, biological engineering, and bioenergy.
