The Director of Sports Information serves as the strategic leader and primary point of contact for all athletic communications at Northwest Mississippi Community College. This role oversees all sports-related media, marketing, statistical, and promotional efforts for the college’s intercollegiate athletic programs. The Director exercises independent judgment and creative license in formulating and implementing communications strategies, maintaining athletic archives, managing digital content, and guiding the public image of the department.
This is a full-time position within the Office of Marketing and Strategic Communications and reports to the Associate Vice President for Community Relations, with a dotted-line relationship to the Athletic Director. The Director provides direct leadership and supervision of all athletic communications employees and student interns, delegating tasks when necessary to ensure high-quality coverage of all athletic events and activities. A strong commitment to NJCAA and MACCC rules and regulations, along with student-athlete well-being, is essential.

Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Journalism, Sports Management, or a related field.
- At least 2 years of full-time or relevant experience (undergraduate/graduate/internship) in athletic communications within NJCAA, NCAA, NAIA, or professional sports settings.
- Must have and maintain a valid driver’s license and willingness to travel as needed.
- Successful completion of a criminal background check.
- Must be eligible to work in the United States (no visa sponsorship available for this position).
- Demonstrated experience using Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Photoshop, Lightroom).
- Familiarity with athletic website platforms such as SIDEARM Sports or PrestoSports.
- Proficiency in NCAA Live Stats, StatCrew, PrestoStats, or similar statistical software.
- Ability to create engaging graphics for social media using Boxout Sports, Canva, or Adobe tools.
- Experience managing interns, student workers, or part-time staff in a fast-paced environment.
- Working knowledge of NJCAA/NCAA scoring formats for NWCC-sponsored sports.
- Serve as lead media liaison for all NWCC intercollegiate athletic programs, coordinating and responding to all media requests for coaches, staff, and student-athletes.
- Direct and execute all athletic communications functions including, but not limited to:
- Press releases and game recaps
- Game Day and post-game content
- Preseason media guides and student-athlete bios
- Statistics entry and archival
- Social media strategy and execution
- Athletic Website maintenance and accuracy
- Maintain equipment used in game day productions, including cameras, streaming hardware, audio equipment, and related technologies.
- Create content for and operate in-venue screens and video monitors during athletic events to enhance fan engagement and brand visibility.
- Supervise, train, and evaluate all athletic communications staff and student interns; delegate tasks to ensure coverage of all sports and events.
- Maintain strong working relationships with coaches, staff, student-athletes, local/regional media outlets, and external partners.
- Manage and update official athletic records and archives.
- Coordinate with the college’s website provider to implement timely updates, corrections, and enhancements.
- Ensure compliance with all NJCAA and MACCC regulations regarding public relations, statistical reporting, and athlete representation.
- Attend home and away athletic events as needed, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Associate Vice President or Athletic Director.
- Proven ability to lead and manage a team under pressure while meeting deadlines.
- Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.
- High-level proficiency in desktop publishing, sports statistical software, and digital media tools.
- Working knowledge of NJCAA/NCAA sports, rules, and scoring formats.
- Demonstrated ability to build relationships with media professionals and maintain a strong public presence for NWCC Athletics.
- Strong organizational and time-management skills.
- Commitment to student-athlete well-being and institutional compliance.
- Must be self-motivated and able to work independently or as part of a team.
- Proficiency with social media platforms including Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram.
