Position Summary: Notre Dame High School seeks a dynamic, experienced, and passionate Head Varsity Tennis Coach. NDB competes in the West Bay Athletic League and CCS/CIF. The ideal candidate will be responsible for the overall management, development and success of the Tennis program while building a cohesive and competitive program. Coach to lead and oversee all aspects of the girls’ tennis program. The coach will be responsible for developing a competitive and inclusive program that promotes skill development, teamwork, sportsmanship, and a positive student-athlete experience.
Key Responsibilities
Program Leadership & Culture
- Lead and manage the varsity team while developing and overseeing the program at all levels.
- Serve as the lead representative and role model for the NDB tennis program, embodying the values of teamwork, respect, and personal growth.
- Establish a program culture that fosters athletic excellence, academic integrity, and strong character development.
- Promote a sense of sisterhood, collaboration, and pride among team members and the wider NDB community.
Coaching & Player Development
- Design and implement a progressive, age-appropriate practice curriculum focused on skill development, match strategy, mental toughness, and sportsmanship.
- Provide individual and small-group instruction to improve player technique and performance.
- Evaluate athletes during tryouts and throughout the season to determine placement, and areas for improvement.
Game & Practice Management
- Develop and manage a comprehensive practice and match schedule in coordination with the Athletic Department and league officials.
- Prepare game-day lineups and strategies; oversee all aspects of match preparation, including transportation, warm-ups, and equipment.
- Maintain and inventory tennis equipment, uniforms, and first-aid supplies.
Communication & Relationships
- Maintain consistent and professional communication with student-athletes, parents, Athletic Department staff, faculty, and school administration.
- Host pre-season meetings with players and families to outline expectations, schedules, and team values.
- Serve as a liaison between the school and outside tennis organizations or coaches when appropriate.
Administrative & Compliance
- Maintain accurate records of attendance, injuries, match results, and athlete progress.
- Submit end-of-season reports and participate in coaching evaluations and post-season debriefs.
Supervision & Collaboration
- Recruit, mentor, and manage assistant coach.
- Collaborate with the Athletic Director on program goals, budget requests, and facility needs.
- Attend all required school, league, and CCS coaching meetings or trainings.
Community & Program Growth
- Promote the tennis program within the school and surrounding community to encourage participation and build school spirit.
- Support the school’s broader mission by attending school events (including admissions events), participating in service opportunities, and fostering a welcoming, inclusive environment.
Qualifications
- Prior coaching experience, preferably at the high school or collegiate level
- Strong knowledge of tennis fundamentals, strategies, and current coaching techniques
- Ability to lead, mentor, and motivate young athletes
- Excellent communication, organization, and interpersonal skills
- CPR/First Aid/AED certified (or willingness to complete upon hire)
- Livescan fingerprint clearance, TB test, and completion of NFHS and CIF-required training and other relevant NDB training.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working in a school setting or with high school-aged athletes
- Familiarity with CIF and CCS regulations and requirements NFHS Fundamentals of Coaching, Concussion Training, Sudden Cardiac Arrest Training, First Aid/CPR.\
Season Dates: August through November (with pre-season planning in July)
Compensation: Stipend - $5800-$6800
