What you will do
The Clinical Supervisor is responsible for day-to-day supervision of weekend and after-hours clinical staff and processes. Ensures quality patient care and outcomes.
Responsibilities
- Provide input to the scheduler, home health, and hospice program coordinators, as needed to assign patients to the appropriate clinician based on geography, patient needs, and the clinician’s expertise, abilities, and caseload.
- Work collaboratively within Partners In Care programs/services to ensure the highest quality of service to patients, families, and the community throughout Partners In Care program services.
- Facilitate coordination of care by communicating and working effectively with staff, patients/families/caregivers, physicians, vendors, and other departments and professionals as appropriate.
- Ensure the clinical competency of staff by mentoring, reviewing documentation, and home visits.
- Ensure competent professional staff. Responsible for ensuring excellent customer service and promoting staff satisfaction.
- Responsible for coordinating and assuring a high standard of quality care consistent with each profession on the interdisciplinary team and Partners In Care Mission and core values.
- Assist in the interviewing and hiring process of new nursing staff. Has primary responsibility for orienting new staff in collaboration with the clinical educator.
- Provide leadership and formal/informal education to staff through in-services, case conferences, and group discussions on Hospice philosophy, operations, policy and procedures, and problem-solving to ensure staff competencies.
- Provide useful developmental feedback; confront and develop a plan with staff to address performance issues.
- Complete incident concern reports and follows up as necessary. Use opportunity for education for involved staff.
- Assist in the formulation, revision, implementation, and evaluation of policies and procedures, and strategic goals and objectives.
- Participate in public relations and community activities that promote the organization’s role in the community.
- Participate in quarterly record reviews and Organization PI activities.
- Participate in quality activities including chart reviews and organization performance improvement.
- Overall responsibility for reviewing/approving RN timesheets and submitting to payroll in a timely manner.
- Facilitate coordination of care by communicating and working effectively with staff, patients/families/caregivers, physicians, vendors, and other departments and professionals as appropriate.
- Participate in annual budget preparation with Clinical Operations Director and CFO. Stay within the approved budget.
- Assist with Partners In Care program development activities as requested. Participation in organization committees, work groups, and special projects as requested.
- Provide supervision of field nursing staff, including 90-day and annual evaluations.
- Assist in counseling and the corrective action process as appropriate.
- Perform other duties and activities as delegated by Clinical Operations Director.
- Ensure staff productivity and documentation timelines, review overtime and hours-to-date reports.
- Responsible for ensuring positive home health and hospice outcomes.
- Maintain relationships based on trust, support, and growth with co-workers and staff.
- Responsible for continuous care coordination, staffing, and education.
- Understand and adhere to the Partners In Care Mission, Core values, policies and procedures, and advocate its philosophy.

- Graduate of an accredited school of nursing with current licensure to practice professional nursing in the State.
- Minimum of five years of clinical experience and 2 years of supervisory experience in the hospice setting.
- Current automobile insurance required.
- Valid Oregon driver’s license and/or reliable transportation required.
- Current CPR card required.
- Demonstrates an ability to work with other health care clinicians, development of home plan of care, knowledge of third-party reimbursement, and ability to negotiate payment rates.
- Self-directed and able to work with minimal supervision.
- Demonstrate excellent observation verbal and written communication skills.
- Certified Hospice and Palliative Care Nurse Certification (CHPN) preferred
Work Environment
- May be exposed to infections and contagious diseases. Contact with patients under wide variety of circumstances.
- May be exposed to/occasionally exposed to patient elements. Subject to varying and unpredictable situations.
- Handles emergency or crisis situations. Travel required.
- OSHA exposure category 1: Position includes tasks that involve exposure to blood, body fluids, tissues.
Required Personal Protective Equipment as conditions warrant:
- Gloves, gown, mask, mask with shield, goggles, shoe covers, bouffant cap.
Environmental Conditions
- May be exposed to extremes of heat and cold in all weather conditions. Must drive in various weather conditions on roads in varying degrees of repair.
Travel
- Local/regional travel by personal vehicle during the working day, centralized from the Bend office and extending throughout Central Oregon.
Position Type/Expected Hours of Work
- The general hours of work and days are Friday through Monday, 8:00 a.m. to 5 p.m., and includes on-call requirements.
