POSITION DESCRIPTION SUMMARY
The QA/QC Lead for the Tank Shop, Assembly and Finish department is responsible for inspecting the Transformer tank and related accessories at the point of delivery to the Assembly/ Finish department and maintain QA/QC oversight on all Transformers in assembly and finish stages both visually and with measurement tools, such as micrometers or calipers or other testing instruments. Your job is to ensure the Transformers we produce are of consistently high quality and adhere to relevant specifications. As a quality inspector, you are an invaluable member of our manufacturing team, ensuring the highest quality of production from the shop floor to the final inspection.
Essential Functions
- Perform the incoming inspection of the Transformer, Tank, Cover and Conservator before accepting them in the Finish department and ensure there are no product inconsistencies.
- Inspect the active part (core and coil assembly) for correct implementation of the assembly sheets, E and EN specifications, Work Instructions and good manufacturing practices.
- Ensure the correct process is followed during drying of the active part in the VPD
- Inspect the tanking of the active part in the tank and ensure compliance with specifications, Work Instructions and management of the exposure time.
- Inspect the finished Transformer before and after Factory acceptance test for quality compliance.
- Perform calibration of various pieces of equipment such as calipers, micrometers, etc. and maintain an accurate logbook.
- Assuring all requirements per the ISO standard are adhered to.
- Document Non-Conformances (NC).
- Stop Work Tags (SWT) to document Non-Conformances.
- Ensure that all NCs are properly CLOSED out.
- Contribute to the efforts needed to successfully pass external and internal audits.
- Become knowledgeable on the PTTI internal quality documentation.
- Study and become knowledgeable on the various E and EN specifications, and Work Instructions in the Transformer assembly and Finish departments.
- Assist/lead testers in finding the shorted wires/cables/turns for failed BA & AA tests.
- Assist in determining the root cause of failures and NCs.
- Develop or revise written Work Instructions for Tank, Assembly and Finish departments.
- Provide training to shop workers.
- Serve as a Liaison between the shop floor and engineering.
- Ensure that engineering changes are implemented in a formal revision.
- Ensure that engineering instructions can be practically implemented on the shop floor.
- Perform daily inspection of items in department.
- Perform final product inspection in totality to meet customer’s requirements.
- All other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Knowledgeable on the ISO 9000 Quality System
- Ability to read blueprints and use precise measurement tools.
- Good computer skills, i.e., Microsoft Office, programming
- Familiarity with statistical analysis
- In-depth understanding of technical documentation
- Great attention to detail and problem-solving abilities
- Ability to work independently or on a team.
- Work in confined space
- Use harness for working at heights.
- Follow all safety rules.
Education and Experience
· General Knowledge of national consensus standards of quality assurance, such as, ASME B&PV Code, ISO, Six Sigma, ANSI/ASME NQA1 and Appendices, ANSI N45., IEEE Standards and U.S. NRC Regulatory Guide series
· Hands-on experience with Quality Management Systems (QMS) and testing methodologies
Preferred Education / Experience
- Engineering Degree (Electrical or Mechanical)
- Prior similar experience in Transformer industry
- Either have ISO 9001:2015 credentials or are willing to complete the required formal training upon hire.
- ASQ certification preferred.
Physical Job Demands
Lifting/carrying/moving 1-50 lbs. Involves sitting at a desk for extended periods of time. Manual dexterity to operate specialized equipment. Ability to hear telephone conversations and speak clearly. May need a high level of concentration in a busy area.
Working Conditions
Monday through Friday. overtime, and may be required.
Salary : $65,000 - $85,000
