Job Summary


This position consists of several functions. Federal Work Study students will assist the Financial Aid Outreach and Financial Aid Literacy teams with various duties such as: completing FAFSA applications and guiding students with document submission; FAFSA workshops & presentations (virtually and in person); financial literacy events and activities; outreach to financial aid applicants; and other financial aid, outreach and literacy duties as assigned.

In order to qualify for a Federal Work-Study (FWS) job, a FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) must be on file for the current award year and have eligible financial needs based on the college requirements. Please contact the Office of Financial Aid for more information prior to applying to a Federal Work-Study job.

  • FWS is a need-based, federally funded program.
  • FWS requires the completion of a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA), and confirmation of federal work-study eligibility as determined by the financial aid office.
  • FWS does not directly pay for tuition, and funds are only available to eligible students attending a minimum of six (6) degree applicable hours in a federal student aid eligible program.
  • The FWS award amount is based on your FAFSA results and college funding availability, which will determine the number of hours available to work while supporting the students academic goals.

Essential Functions


45% - Greet and assist students, parents, staff, faculty, and the general public regarding financial aid at the front counter. Assist students via our live chat services. Explain the application process, renewal, and the retention of financial aid
40% - Work various financial aid reports, scanning, document processing, and other duties as assigned.
15% - Assists with Financial Aid Workshops-consists of guiding students on how to complete FAFSA applications, High School visits with the Outreach Specialist.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Excellent customer service skills; that includes a courteous and positive disposition
  • Excellent listening skills, including attention to details
  • Effective Oral / Written Communication skills
  • Experience and ability to navigate computer data bases and basic office equipment some Microsoft Apps, Data Entry, Internet, Chat, etc.
  • Experience and ability to multi-task, organize, prioritize and meet project deadlines
  • Punctual and reliable
  • High School Diploma / GED

Desired Qualifications

  • General / Basic; Financial Aid experience
  • Ability to respond to students Financial Aid inquiries
  • Some experience or knowledge with the FAFSA (Free Application Federal Student Aid)
  • Experience working in a high-volume environment, collaborating with other departments and/or co-workers, and providing quality customer service
  • Experience communicating policies, procedures, and guiding principles
  • Demonstrate a commitment to excellent service, student/customer service (resolve) success, with integrity and diversity
  • Associates Degree
