Role:

The Bus Driver/Monitor/Floater assures a supportive role in the daily operations of the Head Start Center, providing assistance with daily transportation, classroom and building custodial duties to the Head Start program.

Minimum Requirements:

Driving: Must have a valid Kansas driver's license and be insurable with the Nation's insurance

Experience: Six months to two years of similar or related experience. Willing to obtain Child Development Associate credential (CDA-nine (9) college credit hour course) within one year.
Must be willing to obtain a Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with School Bus Endorsement within 90 days of hire.

Education: A high school education or state GED

Interpersonal Skills: Work normally involves contact with people beyond immediate associates generally regarding routine matters for the purposes of giving or obtaining information which may require some discussion. Outside contacts take the form of service to the public (students, visitors, or vendors) requiring ordinary courtesy in providing assistance and information.

Knowledge:

  • Knowledge of traffic signs, laws, vehicle use and controls, and local roadways.
  • Knowledge of basic vehicle safety restraints and securing harness/seat belts, as needed.
  • Knowledge of the structure and content of the English language including the meaning and spelling of words, rules of composition, and grammar.
  • Knowledge of human behavior and performance; individual differences in ability, personality, and interests; learning and motivation; psychological research methods; and the assessment and treatment of behavioral and affective disorders.

Skills:

  • Monitoring: Monitoring/Assessing performance of yourself, other individuals, or organizations to make improvements or take corrective action.
  • Service Orientation: Actively looking for ways to help people.
  • Operation and Control: Controlling operations of equipment or systems.
  • Operations Monitoring: Watching gauges, dials, or other indicators to make sure a machine is working properly.
  • Social Perceptiveness: Being aware of others' reactions and understanding why they react as they do.
  • Active Listening: Giving full attention to what other people are saying, taking time to understand the points being made, asking questions as appropriate, and not interrupting at inappropriate times.

Abilities:

  • Ability to maintain a safe driving record.
  • Ability to follow oral and written directions as well as a road map.
  • Ability to work in and drive a vehicle in various weather elements and road conditions.
  • Ability to work in a high-stress, deadline-oriented environment.
  • Ability to work efficiently in a highly team-team oriented environment.
  • Ability to maintain a high level of privacy and confidentiality of individuals and families.
  • Ability to develop positive working relationships with others, including members of the public.
