Summary:
This person is responsible for assisting with the preservation and maintenance of the Potawatomi Language, through participation in the grant funded Waftemnogishgowat Project, this person will participate in an apprenticeship to develop their Potawatomi language speaking and writing abilities.
Minimum Requirements:
Driving: Must have a valid Kansas driver's license and be insurable with the Nation's insurance
Experience: Two years of training in the Potawatomi language
Education: High School education or equivalent
Interpersonal Skills: Work normally involves contacts with persons beyond immediate associates generally regarding routine matters for purposes of giving or obtaining information which may require some discussion. Outside contacts take the form of service to the public (visitors or vendors) requiring ordinary courtesy in providing assistance and information.
Knowledge:
o Knowledge of Potawatomi language vocabulary
o Knowledge of clerical procedures and the use of general office machines
o General knowledge of Windows and Apple iOS platforms
Skills:
o Basic Microsoft Office Suite skills
o Active listening
o Conveying information effectively through written or spoken communication
o Critical thinking and problem-solving skills
Abilities:
o Ability to learn the Potawatomi language
o Ability to work in a school setting
o Ability to work with elders
o Ability to memorize words, phrases, and grammatical information patterns
o Ability to listen and understand information and ideas presented through spoken words and sentences
o Ability to present writings in a group setting
o Maintain a valid and current driver's license.
