Summary:
The Performing Arts Counselor is responsible for teaching assigned performing arts classes and assisting with weekly productions. This position supports a positive, inclusive, and engaging learning environment while delivering age-appropriate performing arts instruction and programming.
Work Schedule:
This is a seasonal, part-time position. Performing Arts Counselors must be available to work flexible hours between 7:00 am - 6:00 pm, Monday through Friday. Scheduled hours will vary based on program needs and will not exceed 40 hours per week.

- The salary range for this position is $15.00 - $19.49 per hour. Starting pay DOQ and will not exceed the midpoint of the range
Essential Duties/Job Responsibilities:
The following duties are representative but not all-inclusive:
- Follow all Park district policies, procedures and safety guidelines, exercising sound judgement while supervising children.
- Teach and assist with various performing arts disciplines, including scripting, auditions, set design, choreography, and performance preparation.
- Provide performing arts instruction and production support to children across a wide range of ages.
- Develop and implement a structured curriculum that establishes routine and progression throughout each season.
- Obtain class rosters and accurately record attendance for each class meeting.
- Exercise sounds judgement and demonstrate good safety awareness at all times.
- Conduct routine headcounts and maintain appropriate child-to-staff ratios.
- Encourage children’s participation and foster a positive, inclusive and respectful camp environment.
- Gather, organize and properly use supplies and equipment for activities and performances.
- Serve as a positive role model for children through appropriate behavior, language, and leadership.
- Communicate effectively and professionally with campers, parents/guardians, fellow staff and supervisors.
- Serve as a communication link between children, families, and camp leadership as needed.
- Maintain positive working relationships with children, families and staff.
- Make recommendations to camp leadership regarding program improvements or modifications.
- Exercise safe work habits and respond appropriately to emergencies.
- Perform other related duties as assigned by the Camp Coordinator or Recreation Supervisor.
Qualifications:
- Minimum age of 16 years.
- Demonstrated experience or participation in performing arts.
- Education or training related to performing arts, performances or instruction is preferred.
- CPR/AED & First Aid certification is required prior to the first camp shift.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Ability to teach performing arts concepts to children of varying ages and skill levels.
- Ability to understand, follow, and enforce policies, procedures, and safety regulations.
- Ability to follow verbal and written directions from supervisors.
- Strong organizational and classroom management skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively with staff and children.
Physical, Cognitive and Environmental Requirements:
- Ability to sit, stand and walk for extended periods of time.
- Ability to lift, carry and move equipment and supplies up to 15 pounds, as needed.
- Ability to respond appropriately to situations requiring first aid or emergency care.
- Cognitive ability to understand and apply policies, procedures and safety standards.
- Ability to function in environments that may be loud, active, or fast-paced.
- Ability to work primarily in indoor environments.
