Job Summary
The successful candidate will serve as a clinical microbiology laboratory technician. Perform routine or specialized diagnostic procedures/tests for identification of microbial pathogens of animals and analyze data in support of diagnostic and research missions of the Animal Disease Diagnostic Laboratory (ADDL). Participates in section and laboratory wide team environment to problem-solve, distribute information and work toward continual process improvement. Working in the Bacteriology section affords the opportunity to train on a variety of task families in a lab setting as well as specialized training on advanced diagnostic equipment including MALDI-TOF.

Required:
- Bachelor’s degree in biology, animal sciences, or related field (veterinary nursing degree may also be considered)
- 6 months of relevant lab experience
- Consideration will be given to an equivalent combination of related education and required work experience (Associate’s degree and two and a half years of relevant work experience)
- Knowledge of microbiological procedures, sterile technique, calculation/concentration determination, and equipment
- Ability to interpret results
- Ability to recognize and identify problems
- Strong oral and written communication skills
- Computer, word processing, and organizational skills
- Ability to work individually and in a team environment
Preferred:
- Supervisory skills
