Job Summary:
The Quality Engineer position reports to the Quality Manager and is responsible for troubleshooting, investigating, and advancing product quality and internal and external customer satisfaction by owning escalated issues until they are resolved.
Duties/Responsibilities:
- Control and Coordinate Customer Audits of R&L Spring Company’s QMS.
- Recommend improvements for alignment between R&L Spring Company Procedures and Standard Requirements
- Assist and lead Internal Audits per current schedule.
- Coordinate and Conduct Layered Process Audits / Packaged Product Audits / Manufacturing Process Audits.
- Develop, support and improve quality specifications, inspection plans and associated documentation.
- Perform component Layouts, Inspections and generate associated records.
- Analyze and troubleshoot inspection and testing results.
- Perform calculations and math functions.
- Comply with the Production Part Approval Process (PPAP) requirements. (Dimensional layouts, Statistical Process Control, Measuring Systems Analysis, Process Controls Plans, Process Flow Charts, PFMEAs,).
- Develop and create PFMEA, and Quality Control Plan.
- Perform accurate reporting of data and information while working in a timely manner to meet quality expectations and delivery requirements.
- Liaising directly with Engineering, Manufacturing, and Document Control to implement & update QMS.
- Develop, improve, and support Supplier Assessments and R&L Spring Company’s ASL (Approved Supplier List).
- Identify and document Key Process Inputs and Outputs as Process Flow Diagrams.
- Assigns and recommends Training based on function within the R&L Spring Company’s QMS.
- Create, Review, and Analyze Quality Procedures, Work Instructions, and supporting Documentation.
- Coordinate Quality Assurance and Quality Control activities as needed.
- Identify, Document, and provide solutions for Audit NCR’s (Non-Conformances).
- Perform Corrective Actions (CAR's), Preventive Actions (PAR's), and OFI (Opportunities for Improvement).
- Interface with cross functional team to identify Process and Product Risk.
- Assist in facilitation of the Quality Planning Process for the QMS and Product.
- Provide new projects with Quality Validation plans.
- Perform other tasks as assigned by the QA Manager and or QA Team.
- Ensure compliance to R&L Spring Company’s IATF 16949 Quality Management System (internal/ external).
Required Skills/Abilities:
- Working knowledge of various industrial processes.
- Ability to read and understand drawings, blueprints, GDT, etc.
- Working knowledge of ISO 9001 / IATF 16949, and quality assurance principles.
- Competence in AIAG Core Processes
- Competence in CQI Automotive Requirements for special processes
- Validation & Verification (Software, IQ, OQ, PQ) Process and Product
- Proficiency in MS Office
- Project Management experience
- Knowledge of Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP)

Education and Experience:
- Mechanical / Industrial Engineering Degree or equivalent experience
- 5-10 years’ experience in automotive quality using the quality disciplines, and Lean Tools.
- Certified Quality Engineer (CQE) preferred.
Physical Requirements:
- Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
- Must be able to lift to 50 pounds at times.
