General Purpose of Position
The purpose of the Fabricator (In Training) position is to operate and produce metal component parts used in the manufacture of center pivot irrigation and trailer/chassis products. Examples of equipment used by the fabricator would be presses, shears, benders, saws, pedestal grinders, and drill presses.
A Fabricator (In Training) is a new employee or existing employee who has not been fully trained or demonstrated proficiency in specific skill areas and on specific machinery. These are employees who are placed in on the job training roles and who will remain as Fabricators (In Training) until predetermined proficiencies are achieved within the Fabrication departments.
Essential Functions
- Upon training completion, must be able to demonstrate proficiency on various types of fabrication equipment while maintaining output and quality.
- Must be able to use hand and power tools correctly.
- As required, must be able to run a forklift and secure a forklift license.
- Must be familiar and cognizant of safety guidelines throughout the company.
- Must maintain a good attendance and punctuality record.
- Must be able to gather and record statistical data accurately.
- Must be able to demonstrate an understanding and use of measuring equipment i.e. measuring tapes, calipers, etc.
- Must be able to demonstrate the ability to read and understand blueprints, blueprint symbols, and Engineering schematics as applicable.
- Must have good communication and interpersonal skills, as they will interact with other departments, professional staff and management of the company.
- Must be able to work with limited supervision and show/demonstrate initiative, tact, good judgement and sound reasoning.
- Must be able to handle the physical requirements of the position.
- Must have neat and legible handwriting.
- Will perform other related duties as directed by supervision.

Will receive on the job training. A mechanical aptitude is preferred.
Machines, Tools, Equipment and Personal Protective Equipment Used
Must be able to operate punch press, shears, benders, saws, pedestal grinders, and drill presses.
Will also utilize tape measure, square, calipers, micrometers, hammers, wrenches, and punches. Will require the use of safety glasses with side shields, protective footwear, gloves, face shields, and hearing protection.
