SQL Database Administrator

Overview

Robert Half is seeking an experienced SQL Database Administrator to design, implement, maintain, and optimize relational database environments. This role is responsible for ensuring database availability, performance, security, and recoverability across development, testing, and production systems. The ideal candidate brings strong hands-on SQL Server experience, exposure to Oracle, solid Linux administration skills, and familiarity with cloud-based infrastructure.

This is a Direct Hire position that will require onsite work.

Key Responsibilities

• Administer and support SQL Server databases across development, test, and production environments
• Perform database installations, configurations, upgrades, patching, backups, and recovery operations
• Monitor database health and performance; identify and implement tuning and optimization strategies
• Design, implement, and maintain backup, recovery, and disaster recovery solutions
• Manage database security, including user access, roles, and permissions
• Automate routine administrative tasks using scripting and related tools
• Administer and support Linux servers hosting database environments
• Collaborate with application, infrastructure, and security teams to support deployments and resolve issues
• Provide advanced troubleshooting and tier-3 support for database-related incidents
• Support help desk and infrastructure teams with escalated database issues
• Maintain accurate documentation for database configurations, procedures, and standards
• Work with vendors as needed and support vendor-managed solutions

• 5 years of hands-on experience administering SQL Server databases in Linux and/or Windows environments
• Experience installing, configuring, and maintaining SQL Server in enterprise environments
• Strong knowledge of database backup, recovery, and disaster recovery practices
• Experience monitoring and tuning database performance
• Experience managing database security, access controls, and compliance
• Proficiency with scripting (shell, PowerShell, or similar) for automation and administration
• Linux system administration experience supporting database platforms
• Experience with Oracle database administration (preferred)
• Exposure to AWS infrastructure and cloud-based database services (preferred)
• Experience designing or supporting high-availability database environments (preferred)
• Familiarity with virtualization technologies (preferred)
• Experience collaborating with vendors and third-party service providers (preferred)
