General Description: The primary objectives of this position are to procure in-kind donations of labor and establish strong relationships with volunteer organizations and individuals. This position acquires and schedules volunteers to support the programs of the San Antonio Food Bank in addition to SAFB events. The Volunteer Engagement Manager will also strategically recruit volunteers and steward a volunteer group portfolio.
Responsibilities:
- Serve as the comprehensive manager for the constituents in this portfolio including prospect research, cultivation, solicitations and stewardship.
- Maintain complete engagement within the San Antonio Food Bank Salesforce database, keeping records up to date at all times and utilizing tasks to develop portfolio.
- Develop relationships and make solicitations to procure volunteer hours and other engagement strategies from corporations, schools, clubs and other organizations.
- Develop and maintain a Plan of Action for all areas of responsibility, including both short and long-range goals and objectives and then work the plan.
- Personal face to face presentations and/or tours for groups, service organizations and others, as directed by Director of Volunteer Services and Chief Resource Officer (e.g. United Way campaign presentations).
- Work closely with the volunteer services team to ensure that booked volunteers are transitioned over to the project leads smoothly. This includes booking offsite volunteer experiences, special groups that need separate projects, and other such oversight.
- Be the primary point of contact for all volunteer scheduling inquiries via email and phone.
- Provide a weekly report on booked volunteers.
- Review Volunteer Surveys and proactively steward volunteer engagement opportunities to increase retention.
- Responsible for ongoing thank you program to recognize volunteer groups through thank you letters and appropriate means.
- Serve as backup for volunteer desk coverage as well as being cross-trained in all duties.
- Establish and maintain a working environment conducive to positive morale, individual style, quality, creativity and teamwork.
- To comply with and abide by all personnel policies and accept additional duties as assigned by the Director of Volunteer Services.
Daily Schedule:
- On alternating Saturdays and Wednesday evenings, Volunteer Engagement Manager will run the volunteer lobby desk and greet volunteers, assign volunteer assignments and assist with sign-in process and present welcome at the beginning of each shift.
- Serve as back up support for Volunteer Lobby when Volunteer Lobby Manager is out of the office.
- College degree in relevant field or equivalent work.
- Work experience in volunteer development and management.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Skills in computer applications i.e. word processing and database management.
- Good judgment and discretion.
- Ability to work independently with minimum supervision.
- Ability to organize work, time, and self.
- Orientation to detail, accuracy, and the meeting of deadlines.
- Ability to work cooperatively with other Food Bank staff and volunteers.
- Ability to present a professional demeanor under a variety of conditions.
- Public Speaking and Customer Service experience preferred.
Physical Demands
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally required to stand, walk, sit, use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hand and arms; talk and hear. Employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by the job include close, distance, color, and peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
Work Environment
The work environment is primarily indoors, but may require attendance at food fairs/events that are held outdoors. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
