Job Summary
This position addresses employee relations concerns by building effective employee relations programs that supports employees, leadership, and the college community through advisement, coaching, training, providing effective tools/resources, and employing positive engagement while adhering to applicable laws, regulations, and guidelines.
Essential Responsibilities
This position addresses employee relations concerns by building effective employee relations programs that supports employees, leadership, and the college community through advisement, coaching, training, providing effective tools/resources, and employing positive engagement while adhering to applicable laws, regulations, and guidelines.
Essential Responsibilities
- Provides guidance to supervisors and employees involving employee relations issues and concerns with the purpose of supporting business imperatives, enhancing performance, monitoring employee discipline and developing a high-performance culture.
- Assists supervisors with drafting and revision of coaching and disciplinary documentation as appropriate. Log and track employee relations issues. Report matters of protected activity and complex employee relations issues to the Assistant Director of HR and Equity, Diversity and Inclusion.
- Investigates and resolves complex employee relations issues including not limited to discrimination or harassment complaints.
- Provides training, coaching and reinforcement to ensure successful implementation of the performance management process to ensure effectiveness, compliance, timeliness and equity within the organization.
- Assists the Vice-President of Human Resources and Legal Activities and outside general counsel in responding to discovery requests. Coordinates the gathering of responsive documents, electronic information, and other relevant materials and information.
- Answers and resolves employment related inquiries and provide internal and external clients with complete and accurate information based on College policies and procedures.
- Provides unemployment information to third party unemployment representative, verify employment information and serve as witness/representative for appeal hearings, review and analyze reports.
- Serves on Management’s collective bargaining team for the College.
- Assists in the development of and conducts human resources training strategies for assessing, planning, delivering, and evaluating training to support employee relations needs.
- Assists the Vice-President of Human Resources and Legal Activities and Assistant Director in clarifying college policy, recommending policy changes and completing special projects.
- Investigates Title XI/VAWA complaints. Obtains and maintains Title IX Investigator Certification requirements. Provides training concerning Title XI/VAWA/Clery Act to employees during the onboarding process.
- Serves as a point of contact for requests made pursuant to the Americans with Disabilities Act, as amended. This includes conducting interactive discussions with employees and supervisors, drafting approval/denial letters, and ensuring that approved accommodations are executed.
- Maintains Upward Evaluation process that allows all regular employees the opportunity to provide meaningful, constructive feedback.
- Serves as a facilitator for conflict resolution meetings which includes managing process and drafting conflict resolution agreements.
- May occasionally work flexible hours to meet the demands of the department.
- Performs related duties.
Qualifications
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s degree and 1 year of related experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Effective written communication skills as demonstrated through application material, as well as through testing that may be required during the application process.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- SHRM Certification is preferred.
- Experience investigating employment related policy and procedure violations and/or complaints/grievances and with writing investigatory reports and/or counseling/disciplinary letters.
- Experience analyzing complex problems or information in an objective manner and deriving logical conclusions by utilizing innovative approaches and techniques to solve difficult problems with multiple variables.
- Experience working with state and federal laws and regulations relating to employee relations, employment, other human resources functions.
- Minimum of 6 months of experience in making oral presentations to individuals and groups to diverse groups of employees.
- The successful candidate will exhibit excellent judgment with the ability to manage highly sensitive information, working knowledge of the principles and practices in the areas of conducting investigations, equal opportunity, harassment and discrimination, conflict resolution, problem solving techniques, interviewing and data collection.
