WTKR/WGNT, The E.W. Scripps station in Norfolk, Virginia is searching for a Newscast Producer to create impactful journalism daily. The ideal Producer candidate is the owner of their newscast who comes to the table with a vision and a plan of execution for the best way to write, build and showcase content on a daily basis. The Producer’s role is to create and organize content for multiple platforms, utilizing strong editorial, journalistic, organizational and communication skills. The Producer showcases content in a unique and compelling way, while fulfilling our station’s commitment to tell stories that are important to the people who live, work and play in Coastal Virginia and Northeast North Carolina. We are offering a $5,000 sign-on bonus for this role. WHAT YOU’LL DO: Develops and organizes all content within a daily local newscast or program; responsible for writing stories and teases, graphics creation, story selection and showcasing Collaborates with reporters, anchors, news managers, directors, photojournalists, video editors and assignment editors to determine content needs and storytelling direction and bring the vision for the newscast to life each day Showcase our product in a unique way; enhances content with graphics, video, research, and station branding Execute time sensitive decisions Responsible for oversight of live broadcast and up to the minute editorial decisions, from rundown creation to spur of the moment decisions in the control booth Perform non-linear desktop editing Perform other duties as assigned WHAT YOU'LL NEED Bachelor's degree in Journalism or related field, or equivalent experience 1-3 years of experience as a local television news writer or producer preferred WHAT YOU'LL BRING: Avid local news consumer: knows daily news, events, trends and happenings on a local level Strong vision and ability to advance stories Excellent interpersonal communicator Extraordinarily passionate about writing; courageous and creative storyteller with attention to even tiny details - choosing the perfect words, grammar, spelling Highly organized Highly adaptable in a fast paced, deadline driven environment Strong self-motivation Working knowledge of journalistic ethics and libel laws and strong editorial judgement Prior knowledge of ENPS or similar newsroom system is a plus Prior knowledge of non-linear editing system like Final Cut is a plus #LI-SM2 #LI-Onsite SCRIPPS' COMMITMENT TO EQUITY, DIVERSITY AND INCLUSION: At Scripps, we are committed to a diverse and inclusive culture that reflects the communities we serve.
