Job Description
Grocery Replenishment Buyer
Purpose: To provide excellent customer service, receive and stock product, and maintain a neat, clean, fully stocked grocery department. To order replenishment stock to meet department objectives for inventory turns and customer service.
Status: Full or Part- Time. Reports to Grocery Manager
Pay Level: IV
Responsibilities:
Customer Service
· Assist customers in a friendly and efficient manner.
· Guide customers to product locations and provide product information.
· Answer calls for grocery immediately, taking messages when necessary.
· Accurately and completely record and file special orders.
· Report customer suggestions and comments to appropriate management.
· Keep aisles clear and retail areas safe for customers.
Department Maintenance
· Clean the department areas regularly and other areas directed by Management
· Front and straighten shelves, including all displays and all sub-departments.
· Notify appropriate manager of product and supplier issues in a timely manner
· Responsible for the replacement and upkeep of sale signs, shelf tags, bin signs and other product signage as needed.
Receiving and Stocking
· Check in and sign for deliveries, follow receiving procedures.
· Fully stock all displays and shelves following established merchandising procedures.
· Rotate product to prevent losses due to expiration.
· Build displays as needed.
· Keep backroom clear, organized, and safe.
Ordering
· Place orders efficiently and on time, using established procedures.
Order to maintain appropriate inventory levels to maximize turns and minimize out-of-stocks.
· Ensure that customer special orders are ordered in a timely manner.
· Maintain complete and accurate order records.
· Communicate vendor or product changes to grocery Management, Buyer and Scanning
· Assist in new item slotting, category management, pricing, resets, and promotions.
· Other duties as assigned
· Participate in quarterly inventory counts.
· Train Grocery staff as requested
· Provide support and mentoring to Grocery staff
· Provide shift leadership in the absence of shift lead
· Attend department and storewide meetings.
· Follow the gift policy when receiving vendor samples.
Qualifications:
Essential
· Excellent customer service skills.
· Organization, accuracy, and attention to detail.
· Experience in retail purchasing and inventory management
· Experience in retail finance, including margins, pricing and shrink
· Experience in retail merchandising, including displays and presentation
· Ability to communicate clearly and effectively.
· Ability to handle multiple demands.
Functional
· English proficiency
· Ability to bend and stoop to grasp objects and climb ladders.
· Ability to stand, bend, stoop, reach, squat and walk for extended periods of time per shift
· Ability to bend and lift loads, not to exceed 60 pounds. Push and pull carts weighing up to 600 pounds.
· Handle environmental exposure to extreme temperatures (coolers, ovens, freezer, outdoors, etc.)
· Ability to freely access all areas of the store including offices, sales floor, back stock areas, and walk-in coolers and freezers.
· Ability to move or handle merchandise throughout the store generally weighing up to 50 pounds
· Reliable attendance
