What are the responsibilities and job description for the TRIO Talent Search (TS) Outreach Advisor position at Southwestern Community College?

Individual will be responsible for recruiting, advising, and assisting middle and high school students to complete high school and to enroll in post-secondary schools. The advisor will also assist students in selecting and applying to post-secondary schools and obtaining financial aid. Requires travel in a two-county area of SW Iowa to visit three to four school districts.
Qualifications include a bachelor's degree in education, human services or related field. Experience teaching or working with youth, preferably working with youth considered at-risk or underserved desired. Individual must possess knowledge of barriers to postsecondary education faced by low income and potential first generation college youth in the target area. Must demonstrate a strong personal commitment to the goals of assisting the underserved and/or at-risk students. Must be comfortable working with large groups of students and demonstrate effective public speaking skills. Must be able to work occasional weekends and/or evenings throughout the year.
This is a grant funded position that will be re-evaluated at the end of the funding period (2026). The TRIO TS grant has been continually funded since 2002. The TS Advisor position is a full time (10 month) position with benefits. Review of applications will begin upon receipt of qualified applicants, and will continue until the position is filled.

Salary : $35,700 - $45,200
