Nighttime Operations Lead – Key Leadership Role for Overnight Operations
Location: Onsite (Frederick, MD)
Salary Range: $58,000 – $62,000 (based on experience and tenure)
Status: Full-Time, Exempt, Night Shift
Schedule: Wednesday to Sunday, 9:00 PM – 6:30 AM
Reports To: Operations Manager

Why This Role Matters: As Nighttime Operations Lead, you act as the senior operations authority onsite during overnight hours, ensuring continuous facility operations, safety, and compliance. This role requires a high level of independent judgment and is responsible for overseeing the smooth execution of multiple operational processes, supporting deviation responses, and making decisions aligned with SBS’s RICE values: Respect, Integrity, Customer-Centered, and Excellence.
Key Responsibilities:
- Serve as the top overnight operations leader onsite, authorized to make real-time decisions on operational priorities, safety responses, and escalation protocols.
- Monitor and ensure optimal performance of critical infrastructure such as HVAC, freezers (-20°C/-80°C), LN2 storage systems, and alarm systems.
- Provide Emergency Response Technician (ERT) coverage, managing incidents and making on-the-spot decisions to resolve or escalate emergencies.
- Exercise discretion in prioritizing overnight tasks, managing unexpected operational challenges, and making facility decisions independently.
- Perform routine cleaning, sanitization, and minor maintenance tasks as needed to maintain operational readiness.
- Conduct environmental monitoring (temperature, humidity, particle counts), interpret data, and initiate responses to out-of-spec conditions.
- Keep accurate and professional documentation in electronic logs, batch records, and deviation reports.
- Lead overnight incident documentation and collaborate on root cause analysis.
- Facilitate smooth shift handoffs, preparing summary reports for day shift leadership.
- Communicate independently with Inventory, Facilities, Validation, and Quality teams on operational needs during unsupervised hours.
Key Qualifications:
- Strong understanding of GMP environments, facility systems, and safety compliance protocols.
- Proven ability to work independently, manage complex operational workflows, and make time-sensitive decisions.
- 5 years of operational facility experience, with demonstrated ability to troubleshoot and resolve onsite operational issues.
- Proficiency in operational documentation, SOP adherence, and reporting.
Preferred Experience:
- Prior cross-functional experience in facility, validation, or quality operations.
- Familiarity with biotech manufacturing and regulated environments.
- Commitment to acting as an overnight operational leader with sound judgment and escalation authority.
