This position is responsible for supervising the Interlibrary Loan (ILL)unit in the Access Service Department at the State Library and for providing ILL services to public libraries throughout the state of Louisiana. Requires the use of statewide and national/international databases and knowledge of the American Library Association National Code of Ethics and the Louisiana Interlibrary Loan Code. Personally handles all requests for non-standard, esoteric or special materials including serials and other complex searches that require professional knowledge and judgement. Responsible for accuracy and completeness of work performed by this unit.
Special Requirements:
Knowledge: Requires Masters Degree in Library Science from an ALA accredited institution and two years of professional library experience.
Skills: This position requires knowledge of computer operating systems, word processing, data management and spreadsheet software as well as software supporting the functions of interlibrary loan.
Abilities: Ability to multitask and organize a heavy volume of transactions in a timely and accurate manner. Ability to deal with dissatisfied patrons or libraries in a calm and professional manner.

Broad review from a higher level Library Manager, or higher level managerial or administrative personnel.
Supervision Exercised:
Direct over Librarians, Library Paraprofessionals, and clerical support personnel.

May be used by all state agencies.
Job Distinctions:
Differs from Librarian 3 by the presence of supervisory duties.
Differs from Library Manager 2 by the absence of functioning as an Assistant Coordinator of a Service Branch of a library; director of a medium size library; or assistant director of a large department or special library.
Serves as section head in the State Library or other large complex.
Performs and supervises others in the performance of highly specialized and complex professional library functions in such areas as reference and research, original cataloging, retrospective, or other difficult acquisitions, documents control, and classification.
Directs the complete operation of a small departmental or special library.
Serves as assistant director of a medium size departmental or special library.
Participates in goal-setting activities at all levels.
Designs and seeks approval to implement new methods of raising employee and system productivity. May serve as Assistant Section head in the Reference Section of the State Library.
