The Nebraska Department of Banking and Finance (NDBF) is seeking a motivated, energetic and detailed design oriented individual to serve as the agency Public Information Officer. Our Public Information Officer is a member of the front-line communication team recommending, writing, and delivering public comment in various methods such as scripts for others, presentations, web content, social media as well as in assisting in the development and delivery of outreach campaigns. The successful candidate with deliver the content that explains how regulation can assist financial innovation as well as the chance to impact the citizens and financial services industry of the great State of Nebraska by providing customer focused, friendly, and top-notch service. Job Duties: As a team member working with Department senior leadership, this member will take the lead in developing, drafting, gaining approval, and posting press releases, public outreach, writing social media releases, producing text-based videos. Manage and implement department outreach campaigns including managing vendor relationships, implementing campaign deliverables, and managing campaign resources such as outreach materials, photo library, inventories, and related equipment and materials. Track, report, and assess NDBF outreach, presentations, speeches, and other outreach and accomplishments. Working with senior management to write, develop, and lead in updating public facing presence including web and social media presence, update select applications, brochures, branding, and align with the State communication directives. Position may be charged with scheduling team meetings and leading the NDBF branded projects. This position would monitor and report on Nebraska Financial Innovation as well as a host of NDBF and state branded initiatives. Duties may include writing and delivering public presentations, delivering NDBF topics of financial literacy and public protection, monitoring, updating, and posting to web pages, social media, and You Tube. Position will work with confidential and sensitive materials regarding topics that may become public but are confidential prior to release, as well as topics that may never be public, such as state or federal topics and regulatory related information sharing. Position may be assigned proofing and processing of legal documents, final fact checking, or sensitive matters. Position may work special projects as assigned by the Director, Deputies or General Counsel as well as coordinate in outreach with the Governor’s office, Conference of State Banks Supervisors (CSBS), North American Securities Administrators Association (NASAA) and others. Position may serve as a trainer and coach to other staff on posting information to the Department’s web or social media, database, as well as in general office duties, including the processing of sensitive information. Duties may include use of excel to perform special projects related to Director requested surveys or data collection, such as but not limited to the auditing or surveying of other programs, routine assistance in review of written or accounting based reporting, confidential handling of material, possibly tracking of team use of key solutions as well as related surveys. Assistance in assignments to support staff morale including organizing and delivering celebrations and serving as a member of the social committee. Use of video editing software, extensive knowledge of PowerPoint and other duties as assigned. Monitor Capitol and other urgent communication channels for prompt message awareness and considered response. Obtain various reports from internal and external databases for weekly, month-end, annual, and ad hoc reporting. Draft letters and general correspondence. Prepare miscellaneous correspondence, documents, and reports for various team members. Data entry using internal and nationwide data bases. Perform other work as assigned. Requirements / Qualifications: Minimum Requirements: Bachelor’s Degree in journalism, communications, marketing, public relations, advertising, graphic arts, digital media, videography, or related field and at least one year of experience in coordinating, planning, and managing public relations/publicity campaigns, mass media communication activities and/or public information programs. Required experience may substitute for the education on a year for year basis. Preferred Qualifications: Prefer at least 2 years of marketing, writing, publishing, web management, administrative and/or technical experience. Prefer some college/associates degree in business, writing, marketing, or similar office management, finance, or operations research. Other: Regular and Reliable attendance is required. This position requires travel. As such, the incumbent must be able to present a valid driver's license or another form of reliable transportation. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Knowledge of social media, web posting, YouTube posting, office processes and procedures; customer service processes and principles; administrative and office/clerical support procedures and associated computer applications such as word processing, file management, record keeping, and database management. Ability to work on a quick turnaround, producing written responses while thoroughly examine documents for correctness/completeness. Good oral and written communication skills are vital to effectively provide information, employ professionalism and good judgment. May be assigned outreach or situational update duties to include public speaking. Understand and apply instructions and program-administrative policies and directives; learn agency policies and procedures pertinent to the work assigned. Ability to multi-task, meet and adhere to deadlines, work independently with limited supervision, and be a team player. Skilled in MS Word, PowerPoint, Excel, website maintenance software, social media posting, and Outlook. Dependability and commitment to the job are essential. Ability to bend, stoop, and lift at least 35 pounds on an occasional basis. Valid driver’s license and evidence of vehicle insurance, or the ability to provide independent authorized transportation. Must be willing and able to travel overnight approximately 4 to 8 nights a year.
