The Position
Incumbents function as managers who train, supervise and evaluate the performance of subordinate supervisors; develop policies and procedures; and allocate staff and resources to accomplish goals and objectives. The Nevada DIVISION OF CHILD AND FAMILY SERVICES (DCFS) is recruiting for an Assistant Superintendent Youth Facility located at the NEVADA YOUTH TRAINING CENTER (NYTC) a 64-bed staff secure facility for male and female youth ages 14 to 20 located in Elko, NV. NYTC goal is to promote positive self-growth, create change in behavior, attitudes, values, and ways of thinking through education, therapeutic treatment, and appropriate medical and mental health services. Incumbents function as managers who train, supervise, and evaluate the performance of subordinate supervisors; develop policies and procedures; and allocate staff and resources to accomplish goals and objectives.
Under administrative direction of the Superintendent, the incumbent oversees the care, custody, counseling, and training of committed youth in the State youth correctional facility. In concert with the Superintendent, collaborate and coordinate with the clinical supervisor of the mental health team to ensure mental health services are rendered appropriately and efficiently. They will supervise the direct care staff; prepare statistical reports regarding the operation of the facility; assess the training needs of assigned staff through the review of performance evaluations; assist the Superintendent in the planning and development of the facility's budget, internal policy and procedure and the implementation of state and federal legislation; provides recommendations to the Superintendent regarding Human Resource decisions; and performs other duties as assigned. This position will function as a manager who trains, supervises, and evaluates the performance of subordinate supervisors; develops policies and procedures; and allocates staff and resources to accomplish goals and objectives. The incumbent has availability to respond to after-hours emergencies. This is a full-time position with overtime after 40 hours per week. To Qualify:
In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications)
Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in psychology, social work, sociology, counseling and guidance, human services, social services, education, criminal justice, business management or closely related field and two years of supervisory experience in directing and supervising staff involved in the custody, treatment, counseling, education and rehabilitation of incarcerated individuals in a correctional facility; OR graduation from high-school or equivalent education and four years of experience as described above; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience as described above.
Special Requirements
Pursuant to NRS 62B.270 and the Federal Prison Rape Elimination Act, applicants must submit to a criminal and child abuse background check and said background must be clear of any disqualifying offenses.
Pursuant to NRS 284.4066, this position has been identified as affecting public safety. Persons offered employment in this position must submit to a pre-employment screening for controlled substances.
A valid drivers license is required at the time of appointment and as a condition of continuing employment.
