Introduction

The Wisconsin Department of Transportation, Division of Transportation System Development, Southeast Region is seeking an Urban and Regional Planner Intern. This position will be headquartered at 141 NW Barstow Street in Waukesha.

This position offers a hybridized work schedule. The position will be headquartered at and required to work from the Waukesha State Office Building in Waukesha, WI at least 2 days per week. All employees working a hybrid work schedule are generally expected to telework from within the State of Wisconsin. This topic will be discussed more at the time of the interview.

Position Summary

This Position Will Assist Planning Staff With Various Tasks Including Design Plan Review, Mapping Infrastructure And Reported Concerns, General Research, And File Coordination. Under Specific Direction, The Following Tasks Are Anticipated

  • preparing design review comments
  • attending design review meetings
  • mapping bicycle/pedestrian accommodations
  • installing/uninstalling bicycle and pedestrian counters
  • processing count data

Salary Information

The salary for this position is $19.75/hour.

Job Details

WisDOT does not sponsor work visas. WisDOT is not enrolled in WSCIS E-Verify and is not eligible to employ international F-1 students seeking STEM-OPT extension. Any appointment made will be contingent on the applicant being able to prove valid status to work in the United States.

This is a Limited Term Employment (LTE) position and limited to 1,039 hours in 26 consecutive pay periods (1 year).

Wisconsin Residency Is Required For Limited Term Employment Positions.

Limited Term Employment (LTE) positions are not civil service classified positions, do not give any rights to permanent civil service classified positions and do not lead to permanent status.

Qualifications

A well-qualified candidate will have the following:

  • Knowledge of urban planning principles, practices and theory
  • Effective written and oral communication skills
  • Effective organization and time management skills
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office Programs
  • Knowledge and experience using ArcGIS to create and/or modify GIS data
