The Waterford Graded School District is seeking a dedicated and strategic School Business Manager to oversee financial operations, budgeting and resources management to support our mission of academic excellence. The School Business Manager is responsible for overseeing the financial, operational, and administrative functions of the school or school district. This role ensures the efficient allocation and management of resources to support the educational goals of the institution. Key responsibilities include developing and managing budgets, monitoring compliance with state and federal regulations, and coordinating transportation and food service operations. The Business Manager collaborates with the superintendent, school board, and staff to develop financial strategies, manage procurement, and ensure fiscal accountability. Strong leadership, organizational, and communication skills are essential for success in this position, along with a thorough understanding of public school finance and operations.
- Develops, implements, and monitors the annual school district budget, ensuring financial resources are allocated effectively to support educational programs, operations, and strategic initiatives.
- Coordinates with third-party service providers, such as transportation companies and food service vendors to manage contracts and ensure service quality.
- Oversees and administers payroll processes, ensuring timely and accurate payment of salaries and benefits to district employees, and addresses any payroll-related discrepancies.
- Manages accounts payable and receivable functions, including processing invoices, issuing payments, reconciling accounts, and ensuring accurate financial documentation.
- Ensures compliance with federal, state, and local financial regulations, including reporting requirements, grant management, and adherence to school district policies.
- Leads procurement processes by developing bid specifications, evaluating vendor proposals, negotiating contracts, and ensuring compliance with district procurement policies and applicable laws.
- Prepares, reviews, and presents detailed financial reports and analyses to the superintendent, school board, and other stakeholders, ensuring clarity and transparency.
- Oversees budgetary aspects of operational projects, capital improvement planning, and emergency repairs
- Collaborates with district leadership to develop and execute long-term financial plans, addressing challenges such as enrollment changes, funding shifts, and operational needs.
- Serves as the primary point of contact for internal and external audits, ensuring all financial documentation is complete, accurate, and submitted in a timely manner.
- Conducts ongoing evaluations of district expenditures, identifying opportunities for cost savings while maintaining or improving service quality.
- Provides training, support, and guidance to school staff and administrators on financial procedures, budget management, and compliance requirements.
- Monitors cash flow and investment strategies to maintain fiscal stability, optimize financial performance, and ensure sufficient funding for operational needs.
- Assists in the development and implementation of district-wide risk management policies, including insurance coverage and liability assessments.
- Understand and follow District safety protocols and procedures
Education, Qualifications and Experience
- 5008 Business Manager license preferred, but not required
- Bachelor's degree
- Previous experience in school finance and with Skyward preferred
Required Skills/Abilities:
- Strong financial management and budgeting skills
- Knowledge of accounting and payroll systems
- Knowledge of WUFAR accounting principles
- Understanding of school funding and resource allocation
