EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

  • High school education plus two year Associate degree; trade school; or equivalent schooling/experience is required
  • 5 or more years of diversified experience in a plant setting including; repairing/rebuilding machines, installation of various types of production and support equipment.
  • Working knowledge of typical facility systems including electrical, hydraulic, pneumatic, blower, exhaust, plumbing, power supply, compressors, air conditioning and heating systems.
  • Working knowledge of building trades including carpentry, masonry and general construction, as well as the ability in using electrical and mechanical principles, charts, tables, drawings, mathematics and various preventive maintenance techniques.
  • Knowledge of basic principles of supervision and leadership, planning and scheduling of work assignments, handling of personnel problems, is essential.
  • Performing and/or supervising electrical, plumbing, carpentry, masonry, sheet metal and other work.
  • Some experience with contractors and vendors on various aspects of construction, installation and the procurement of maintenance supplies, tools, and equipment.
  • Setting up or maintaining of preventive maintenance programs or familiarity with packaged web based PM systems.

ESSENTIAL PURPOSE OF THIS POSITION:

Provide cost conscientious maintenance services and leadership to ensure uninterrupted work flow in the plant and offices as well as provide maintenance specific technical support as needed by the Quality and Engineering departments.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

  • All duties for this position will be under the general direction of the plant Engineering Manager. The person holding this position is expected to supervise all aspects of maintenance activities involving production machines, support equipment, manufacturing facilities, office facilities and grounds.
  • Perform all aspects of labor supervision of hourly maintenance personnel including 30/60/90 day evaluation for potential new hire(s), review/observe daily activities and participate in disciplinary action processes as necessary. Recommend hiring, dismissals, transfers and upgrading
  • Plan work schedules and direct maintenance lead persons in scheduling work efficiently. Ensure that effective training plans for all maintenance staff are in place and that progress is being made per overall business objectives. Plan, schedule and make work assignments for grounds maintenance, sweeping and snow removal, maintenance of wash rooms and painting.
  • Recommend equipment and procedures for improving maintenance reliability, product quality and reducing costs. Assist with meeting monthly budgetary goals including labor and parts expenditures.
  • Effectively manage all aspects of capital and expense projects as assigned as well as provide maintenance support for Engineering driven projects. Coordinate maintenance work on major projects to ensure that assigned tasks are performed according to established schedules. Estimate maintenance labor and materials costs as required.
  • Support in encouraging safety and good housekeeping practices. Support plant management staff in ensuring compliance with all safety, regulatory and insurance obligations.
  • Ensure that all water, gas lines, sprinkler systems, valves, regulators, control instruments, electrical systems, and lighting are properly installed and maintained. Collaborate with Division Engineering, Innovation Center and Corporate Maintenance resources as needed.
  • Support planning and development of approved preventive maintenance procedures as needed. Serve as an emergency coordinator for facility emergencies. Participate in weekly rotation for on-call engineering/maintenance support for off shift production needs.
  • Participate in plant wide initiatives as needed including formal safety management activities, 5S auditing, scrap reduction and/or customer servicing.

SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:

  • Requires analytical effort, initiative, ingenuity and judgment in planning and directing machine and equipment repairs, installation and maintenance of plant utilities, equipment and production machines.
  • The ability to read and understand parts/equipment blueprints, buildings & grounds prints and electrical schematics.
  • Tactful and diverse communication skills in order to successfully execute the duties and requirements of the position and to effectively lead direct reports in their responsibilities/duties as well.
  • Ability to contribute to and lead/form teams in order to effectively complete many of the plant's objectives. Must be able to collaborate effectively with all relevant stakeholders. This includes suppliers and contractors, municipal utilities, regulatory authorities as well as all Essex employed stakeholders.
  • Must look to continuously improve personal skills, plant processes, cost savings efforts and equipment reliability/performance.
  • A mindset which focuses on results and an orientation toward meeting customer specific needs.
  • Proficient in all Microsoft Office applications.
  • Must be able to support maintenance staff in their computer/software requirements to complete their duties.

Experience with AutoCAD, advanced spreadsheet skills, statistical software and any packaged maintenance management software skills would be a plus.
