Primary Heat Transport System Design Engineer
System One is looking for a Primary Heat Transport (PHT) System Design Engineer with expertise in primary sodium heat transport systems. This is a contract position either remote or onsite in Bellevue, WA for 12 months with the possibility of extension or conversion. This role involves leading system design for reactor projects and requires a comprehensive understanding of fluid dynamics, including centrifugal pumps and heat exchangers.
Core Responsibilities:
- Develop nuclear and industrial process systems from concept to final design.
- Conduct thermal-hydraulic and structural analyses using both manual and software methods.
- Apply relevant design codes (ASME, ANS, ASTM, IEEE, NFPA) to system designs.
- Guide engineers on nuclear and non-nuclear design standards.
- Integrate regulatory standards into mechanical and process system designs.
- Manage design schedules and collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to produce design documentation.
- Oversee supplier projects and ensure compliance with technical specifications.
- Initiate and supervise system qualification tests and analyze results.
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
- Over 10 years of experience in mechanical system design.
- Experience at an operating nuclear facility or nuclear supplier in a design engineer role
- Proficiency in fluid system design and simulation software
- Experience with nuclear steam supply systems, centrifugal pump operation, and heat exchanger design.
- Rotating equipment experience (pumps preferably)
- Ability to lead design teams and manage complex projects with minimal supervision.
- Candidates should have a proactive approach, excellent problem-solving skills, and the ability to navigate multiple objectives within design projects.
