Position Summary:
The Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) works under the direction of a qualified Register Nurse (RN) or Provider. The LPN participates in the planning, implementation, and evaluation of nursing care, and functions within the parameters of his/her training; works cooperatively with members of the clinical care team and other essential departments.
Essential Functions:
• Provide direct and individualized nursing care to patients based on the application of scientific principles, under the supervision of a RN
• Initiate and assist in relevant health education of patient and family
• Share responsibility for the planning, implementation, and evaluation of nursing care plans and the delivery of nursing care
• Participate in team conferences/meetings, sharing knowledge, information and ideas among team members
• Prepare, administer and record medications in accordance with policy
• Participate in the delivery of emergency care, as needed
• Supervise medical assistants in performance of procedures; record information concisely, accurately and completely in EHR.
• Identify and utilize appropriate channels of communication
• Actively participate in TFHC committees, as assigned
• Prepare patients for physical and gynecological examinations
• Obtain required data on each patient prior to visit with Provider
• Bag and store biohazard waste
• Perform specific ‘in-house’ lab tests in accordance with protocol
• Perform screening exams, i.e. vision, hearing, etc., as indicated or ordered
• Adhere to all safety measures and OSHA regulations
• Maintain strict confidentiality of patient information, adhering to all HIPAA regulations
• Communicate with patients and staff in a courteous, professional manner
General Duties:
• Support the Mission, Vision and Values of Tampa Family Health Centers
• Provide float coverage to other centers, as directed
• Assist in the orientation and onboarding of new personnel, as requested
• Assume responsibility for continued personal and professional growth; must keep CEU’s current
• Responsible for implementing infection control standards, as directed
• Responsible for learning operations and routine maintenance of all clinical equipment, including any new equipment; responsible for training other staff on equipment usage and maintenance
• Perform other related duties, as assigned
Knowledge and Experience:
• Minimum (1) year clinical practice experience, preferred
• Membership and participation in the Licensed Practical Nurses Association, encouraged
• Strong communication skills, both written and oral
• Ability to foster and model teamwork and cooperation
• Ability to navigate and enter data into an electronic health record
• Demonstrated ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment
Education, Certification Training and License:
• Graduate of an accredited LPN Program
• Active and unencumbered LPN license in the State of Florida
• Current BLS Certification
