Tampa Family Health Centers, Inc. (TFHC) was founded in 1984. The concept of TFHC was the result of a ‘grass roots’ effort sought to provide health care for the poor and uninsured residents of the inner city of Tampa. The proposal grew out of the “Mode City” initiative of the early eighties.

Position Summary:
As part of an integrated model of healthcare, the psychiatrist diagnoses, prescribes medication, monitors medication side effects and participates in the treatment proves in the field of mental health. The psychiatrist functions in accordance with plans and policies established and performs duties within the medical setting as a member of the care team.
Essential Functions:
• Provides direct diagnostic assessment and evaluation of patients with emotional, mental, or behavioral disorders; coordinates care with the primary care physician; participates in treatment plan reviews
• Maintains timely and accurate electronic medical record documentation on all patients including office visits, telephone calls, and hospital admissions/visits, if applicable
• Makes appropriate referrals to other facilities for further testing, diagnosis, treatment and follow-up care; orders and review appropriate lab tests and other medical procedures
• Provides appropriate and adequate treatment to patients, with the ideal endpoint being remission of psychiatric symptoms; provides adequate appropriate and education to patients
• Participates in Peer Review and Quality Improvement initiatives
• Oversees the broad range of the organizations treatment modalities performed by both psychiatrists and other health professionals for the benefit of the mentally ill
• Serves patients in a warm accepting and respectful manner; does not impose his/her values on the patient
• Periodic supervision and teaching of residents, medical students and other allied health professionals
General Duties:
• Support the Mission, Vision and Values of Tampa Family Health Centers (TFHC)
• Participate in QI related activities, with a focus on providing quality care and closing care gaps
• Is accountable to ensure patient rights and ensures an environment that promotes the privacy, dignity and well-being of all patients in a safe, secure environment
• Supports and participates in common teamwork
• Promote positive public relations with patients, visitors and community
• Adhere to all HIPAA, State, Federal, accreditation agency, HRSA and TFHC rules and regulations
Knowledge and Experience:
• Ability to navigate and enter data into an electronic health record
• Knowledge of medical terminology, abbreviations and procedures
• Ability to work at a rapid pace, being involved in several duties at once
• Ability to work with persons from a wide diversity of social, ethnic and economic backgrounds
Education, Certification Training and License:
• Graduation from an accredited medical school, with specialization in Psychiatry
• Board Certified or Board Eligible in General Psychiatry
• Current BLS certification
• Valid and current State of Florida Medical License
• Valid and current DEA Registration Certificate
• Maintain hospital privileges at the Center’s referral hospital, if required by administration
• Maintain continuing education credits for licensure, as required
