POSITION OVERVIEW: The Texas Education Agency (TEA) oversees the primary and secondary education of 5.3 million students in Texas public schools by providing leadership, guidance, and support to school systems. Well-equipped agency employees are critical to ensuring local school districts, superintendents, and teachers are supported to ensure the Agency’s Strategic Plan is successful in achieving our vision to prepare the public-school students in Texas for success in college, career, or the military. The TEA is currently seeking a Facilities Technician. Under the supervision of the Director for Agency Services, you will be responsible for providing support and technical assistance to the agency. This includes planning and coordinating agency support operations such as property and asset management, inventory, warehouse storage support, fleet management, security, receiving management and building infrastructure. Other responsibilities include disseminating information, maintaining files, inventory systems, developing operational reports, potentially training others, providing general facilities support and additional duties as assigned. The Facilities Technician Works under moderate supervision, with limited latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Facilitates TEA staff relocations and provides move assistance to agency employees and divisions: Including responsible for setting up conference rooms for the State Board of Education, State Board of Educator Certification, and other internal agencywide meetings.
- Manage operations of internal supply and receiving: Coordinates all Agency Services supplies and assets including but not limited to tools, hardware, safety equipment, security badges, office equipment, furniture, etc. Primary receiver for all agency owned assets and supplies. Verifies and receives all assets and supplies within the inventory system according to the purchase orders place by purchasing department and works with department staff to verify receipt. Coordinates and reconciles monthly chargebacks for all supply “sales” to agency departments alongside accounting staff.
- Inventory operations and management: Coordinates delivery of store and internal supply operations, including stocking and issuing materials, equipment, or other agency-own Inventory. Coordinates supply room annual inventory procedures.
- Assists with agency asset management: Responsibilities include assisting with maintenance and certification of state property and inventory of agency archives. Provides technical assistance to the Director of Agency Services for the disposal or transfer of all agency-owned assets. Coordinates pickup and destruction of confidential documents (Shred Bins). Coordinates record retrieval of files, transport, refile agency archive records.
- Assists the agency's Mail center operations to meet deadlines to pick up mail and lock box receipts, sort incoming mail: Including processing and managing the monthly chargebacks for mail, supply and FedEx
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Education: High School Diploma or GED
Experience: At least [4] years of experience in progressively responsible facilities experience that includes fleet management, experience in modular furniture and state inventory processes; upkeep and maintenance of facility related equipment; basic accounting, data entry, filing, preparation of correspondence and reports; and customer service, handling customer complaints or other related duties.
- Share the belief that all Texas students can achieve at high levels and are able to succeed in college, career, or the military
- Experience using the purchasing and inventory modules in the Centralize Accounting and Payroll/Personnel System (CAPPS).
- Knowledge of and experience implementing state agency requirements and procedures associated with warehousing; inventory and stock control record keeping; retail practices; merchandising; and cost management including Comptroller of Texas State Purchasing Accounting rules (SPA, State Office of Risk Management (SORM) rules and regulations
- Must possess a valid class "C" Texas driver's license and maintain a satisfactory driving record in accordance with the agency's driving policy.
- May be required to work hours other than 8 to 5. May be required to work weekends and holidays.
- Ability to perform manual labor including lifting supplies and materials including the ability to lift 20 lb. boxes, furniture and modular furniture equipment.
- Knowledge of general office practices and procedures, record keeping, and maintaining files; and general agency support services, policies and procedures.
- Ability to use a computer and software applications such as MS office applications: Outlook, Word, Excel, and multiple databases
- Ability to work as a member of a team with a proven ability to establish and maintain effective work relationships with co-workers and a wide range of work-related contacts
- Ability to effectively plan and compete multiple tasks while meeting expected deadlines.
- Ability to work independently with little supervision.
- Ability compile and analyze data and prepare accurate reports.
