What are the responsibilities and job description for the Substitute Teacher for Multi-age School position at The Children's School?
Substitute Teacher for Multi-age School: 18 months to 6 year olds
The Children’s School is hiring Substitute Teachers for an early childhood education environment to support our Lead Teachers when a salaried teacher is ill or has pre-planned vacation time. We operate our classrooms with two full time co-teachers so substitute teachers always work alongside another teacher who is familiar with the children and class schedule.
**At this time we do not have any salaried, full-time teaching opportunities available**
Our desired candidate will be able to take direction from coworkers, ask questions when clarification is needed, understands that all children are inherently good and doing the best they can with the tools they have, and be able to adapt calmly to unexpected situations that may arise as a result of working with young children. The Children's school highly values teamwork, interpersonal skills, reliability, and adaptability.
Our Substitute Teacher position is flexible, part-time work that can be last-minute. We've found this position works well for individuals who need flexibility in their schedule or want additional as-needed income. Candidates MUST be comfortable with occasionally changing diapers, assisting young children with toilet-learning, supervising play outside in the cold/hot weather, and comforting crying or upset children.
Working Hours: are as needed, or can be pre-planned as our salaried teachers will schedule their vacations/PTO weeks-months in advance. Shifts are usually 8am-4p, 8:30am-4:30pm, or 10/11am-5:30p, Monday through Friday. Half day shifts are also available; typically 8:30am-12:30pm, 12:30pm-4:30pm, or 1:30pm-5:30pm.
Becoming a Sub is a great way to get your foot in the door and we often hire our subs on as permanent, salaried teachers when an opening arises. More set hours will be available for temporary summer positions in late May '25.
The City of Boise requires all childcare workers to obtain CPR/FA certification AND a Boise City Childcare Worker License. The CCWL requires individuals to pass an extensive background check. The Children's School assists all teachers (including subs) in obtaining CPR/FA certification and pays the fees for both.
